6.5 days fasted: 156 hours. Down 8.6 lbs. since the start. There will be a rebound when I eat. Aside from the weight loss, I've had a remarkable improvement in my eye floaters; my vision is clearer. This I presume is due to the autophagy: my body cleaning up the junk cells. My long term commitment to periodic fasting is driven by the brain science that is showing prevention of Alzheimers and dementia. I suffered a life-altering TBI 5 years ago, and a major depression 25 years ago. My mental health and my brain function do better with ketones circulating. So I stay in some degree of ketosis all the time; the depression is kept at bay, my Post Concussion Syndrome symptoms are minimized and I lose weight (75 lbs. so far). The fasts bring ketosis up to a more healing/therapeutic level. It's a potent tool. If you are interested in learning more about ketosis as it relates to mental health and brain function here is a fascinating (and long format)video of Andrew Huberman and Dr. Chris Palmer discussing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjEFo3a1AnI

Fun fact: at 3,500 kcal/lb. and 50 lbs overweight, one would have 175,00 calories stored. That's what we're using when we fast. Fast on!

In the 70s when I was a young R.N. and low carb diets first became more well known, I studied the history of the diet. I was really intrigued when I discovered that it had been used at one point to treat things like epilepsy and schizophrenia. I even found a precise low carb diet for the latter. Very interesting to see all of the different medical problems that lower carb can help. I was severely injured in a car wreck in my early teens and was left with some permanent memory loss/selective amnesia so I am aware of how a low carb diet can help that.

Thanks, Y'all. I am breaking the fast today, but I'm going to take it easy. So far just a butter coffee.

I skipped my butter coffee, just had HWC in it, break-fast was delicious. I sat down at the table and set it, ate it slow and savored every bite.....it was awesome!

I enjoyed my first meal at 2:30 - air-fried chicken wings. I'm going to continue on carnivore and switch into BBB&E when I get the freezer cleared out.

The butter coffee, which was half-caf made me very wired. I guess I was over sensitive with such high ketones, which measure at 5.5. I'm sure lunch will bring that down.

Ahhh, there is your eating post! I keep forgetting to refresh this desktop, nice breaker! You did not drink coffee during the fast right??? I know you don't like it black, but if you went 7 days without caffeine, reintroducing it will make you jittery even at half caf

I think the truth is that what I really love is the heavy whipping cream and hazelnut stevia that I mix it with. Moving forward, I think I'll drop it and see if that moves me forward, as I was flatlined. Now that I'm off the coffee, I think I'll leave it that way for now. Also I added MCT which bumps up the ketones -5.5 is super high.

Nice NSV healing points there Erika, I read that the eye floaties are usually white blood cells and broken cells that are just drifting. It's very cool that we just rebooted our entire immune systems with our refeed!

I hear that 50% of people 85 years of age and older have some form of dementia. I have been concerned with my memory for about 5 years so do IF 16/8 everyday. I'm convinced fasting helps. But you have more guts and discipline than I do, to fast so much longer. Congratulations!
