Processing the information I gained over the weekend (along with the extra 3/4 of a pound)...

1. I need to have a better plan for eating out. Because this is a lifestyle change, I know I will need to choose foods from restaurant menus. This weekend I really struggled with choosing the best option on the menu. For instance, on Monday afternoon after walking all day at the Art Prize in Grand Rapids, GoodMan and I stopped at a restaurant for a quick meal before he had to teach his class...so I needed to make a quick decision...and I wanted to make a "new lifestyle" decision. The place was an upscale pub-style place. GoodMan ordered a pulled pork sandwich on a pretzel bun and homemade chips...I couldn't find any options that didn't have pretzel buns, or pizza dough, or cost a fortune...they did have salmon, but it was $20!! I ended up ordering a thin crust personal Margarita pizza ($9) and ate half and took half home. This brings me to my second consideration...

2. I want to have a better way of figuring out how to log some of my meals. I don't have problems with meals at home. I know how many ounces, and what nutritional values are in the foods I prepare. I can even go out to nutritional analysis sites and figure out my own recipe's values. But when I go out to eat sometimes I have no idea what to put down for my meal. Yesterday's Margarita pizza is a prime example. It looked like a large pita bread with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes with basil. I looked through the choices on FS's food list, but I have no idea if what I used is anywhere near correct. This morning I ate the leftover half and counted it as a pita bread with 2oz fresh mozzarella and 3 slices of fresh tomato...which brings me to my third thought...

3. I am getting waaaaay too OCD about this lifestyle change and I know myself well enough to know I cannot sustain this level of angst over what I eat. So...I will live with the uncertainty of what to order when I go out to eat. I'll choose whatever I think fits best for the situation. Sometimes I'll spend the extra $$ and eat what I KNOW is a good choice and sometimes I will choose what fits for time/taste/budget and take the consequences by not seeing a loss on the scale or putting in extra effort at workout. I will also deal with not being able to successfully log everything I eat. Sometimes my log will be right, and sometimes it may be off.

My conclusion is : I'll do my best and try not to stress.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I guess, try to come close, don't stress, just keep to my plan as best I can. If I forget to log, it's ok. I have to be OCDC at work, so don't want my entire life to be that way. I figure it's the overall WOE and exercise that makes a differenc; one meal, one day or weekend isn't a big deal.

I look up the restaurant as well, but that's not always possible, especially if you're in a strange place or a small restaurant that may not post nutritional info. I feel your pain. I have become so OCD about planning and logging food and getting on that scale (especially if I'm retaining water and I watch the weight go down as I get rid of it). Now I've gotten that way about my walks. For a while longer I have to be. BUT if you can ease up and let it go, do it. Relaxing about it has to be healthier. Just do the best you can and enjoy your time away.

Thanks everyone! Wholefoodnut, that is my definition of a lifestyle change as opposed to a diet. Doing the best I can on a day-to-day basis and trying not to stress (or obsess) about one weekend. Sandycatiller, I try to look up restaurants online if I know where I'll be going earlier in the day. I even look things up on my smartphone while I'm in an unfamiliar restaurant or we've made an unplanned stop. I just love the FS app on my phone! - So far GoodMan has been understanding about me having my phone out while I check out all the options. I think it helps when I tell him what some of the calorie counts are on some options! And I think he appreciated my dilemma yesterday and appreciated that I didn't go for the $20 fish ;o} Msbuggirl, realizing this is TRULY a lifestyle change for me and not just a temporary diet has helped me to relax. I hope to not be as OCD in the future, but for right now as I change my lifestyle those things are what anchor me and give me motivation. Thanks again ladies!

Sometimes restaurant on line menus are difficult. Many have no prices, partial menus, just lunch or just dinner, or out dated information. The chains relatively good but the private ones are ify. Some don't have websites, most of the little ones stop in now and then don't have them. LOL the one with excellent tamales if they have one it would all be in Spanish, I could only guess at it. Honestly, I prefer going to the privately owned ones, more interesting and usually better food because they care.
