Back in the blue again! I lost 2.8 pounds this week. Again, it is no mystery. Just like last week when I gained 3.8 pounds it was no mystery as to how that happened. Last week I averaged 1475 calories per day and this week I averaged 1175 calories per day. Those 300 calories per day make a huge difference-- a spread of 6.6 pounds difference!

I had two days of getting a bit too high and two days in the zone and three days under my zone. This is compared to last week when it was three days of way out of the zone and 4 days in the zone. I find that it is all about consistency. The more that I am in the zone or just a little above or below it works better than the giant swings of way out of the zone and then pulling it back into the zone.

Saying all of this- I am quite concerned about my month of August. I am traveling for two weeks in France with my teenage grandchildren and my daughter. We are all adventurous eaters so I know we will be trying lots of the local cuisine. When I get back I will be home for two days and then back to the city for a Blues Festival - I will be gone for 5 days. This is going to play havoc with my orderly eating. I plan to rock n roll through it making the best decisions I can as I go and then deal with the aftermath when the dust clears around 24-25.

My yard continues to be worked on. Lots of trees have been cleared and now I can see the evergreens that were hidden behind all the poplar. Lots of stumps have been dug up so I can mow more easily and maintain the yard better. I have a giant yard so this is a thing! It is maybe 2-3 acres? Something like that. Very large!! Next week (and the last week) the fellows are working on the road in and adding a turn around 'tear drop' road. There is lots of leveling the ground so it drains better. This is the last big project that I need to do on my house. For here it is just maintenance and any aesthetics I wish to do!

Great progress on the house! It's so nice to do things that make a permanent difference (unlike washing dishes, etc.)! Sounds like you've got a good plan for your traveling month. I pray you have a wonderful time and that you'll be able to enjoy the things you want to without doing too much damage. As long as you're able to get back on track when you get home, you'll be fine. ENJOY!!!

I love France and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful experience. Just don't go into any of the patisseries. Far too much temptation for me anyway. And escargot are very good.

Excellent maintenance

Have you ever considered fasting and then eating one main meal per day? I do that mostly when I travel and it really allows me to eat some of what I want while keeping the calories lower

French women are thin because they walk everywhere everyday. They also eat just a few bites of this, a few bites of that. Soup, bread and cheese everyday, but tiny portions. They visit the farmer's market regularly (walking there) and eat fresh fruits & veggies daily. So just live like a French person instead of an American or Canadian. Mindset is everything in weight loss anyway. You've got this!

Hi Everyone! Thank you for your well wishes and suggestions. JustBananas I plan to do a great deal of walking and I intend to pay close attention to my satiety signals so I don't over eat. The place we are staying at is in the country. The population of the town is 125 people. Very similar to where I live so I am used to it. We will have a car to get to the various places we want to visit but I don't anticipate using it constantly. Parking is too hard to find so once parked we will walk everywhere! HCB fasting isn't a good stategy for me. I tend to faint easily when I don't eat regularly. I also will binge which is its own kind of problem. My best method is eating 3 meals at regular times with no snacking. I know many people find other patterns of eating to work better for them. Debbie I am thrilled with getting my house in order. It is gratifying to get things done that will stay done!

All that good French food and wine. Just walk, walk walk, that always worked for me. I'm so impressed with all the improvements you've made to your home, inside and out! Glad you're almost done at last! Enjoy yourself, you've earne it.

Thank you Shirfleur! I am so excited to see the last of the big jobs finished up! I will have the fun of 'tweaking' it in the next years.
