mrsmole's Journal, 24 Aug 14

Now that I'm on the real 20g of carbs per day, I think I really feel it. At the gym, I thought I'd die halfway through my workout. I got up at 6am instead of 5am to walk the dogs, and almost didn't make it out the door. I really know I'm doing it right this time.

I used to take some powdered amino acids with Stevia before my workouts and I even cut those out. Man, I sure felt the difference.

I'm HATING drinking just water. I tried Mio, but being only allowed 3 "servings" of Sucralose per days is a friggin joke. I actually measured out 6ml of Mio in a syringe and added it to 24 ounces of water as directed and it tasted like less than nothing. I tossed it and went back to straight water.

Everyone says I'll get used to the water. I know I will. I've done it before. It's just that the little bottles piss me off and the bigger bottles piss me off more. The 40 ounce cups from Subway that used to house my Diet Minute Maid were "just right", especially at the gym. If I fill them with water, though, the lids wear out after about 3 refills and then I have to sneak back into Subway for new lids. Even though they like me there, I can tell this just isn't going to work long term. I just don't feel right stealing 50 lids when no one is looking.

I'll figure it out. It's funny how these little habits and nuances become so ingrained in our daily lives. I think the folks over at Subway are actually worried about me because it's been 3 days since I've been in for my lemonade refills. Tomorrow, I'll go in and explain that I'm taking a break because of the carbs in their blessed lemonade. They'll understand and spread the word among the staff so no one puts out a missing persons report. :)

I might buy a different brand of ketone strips in case the batch I bought is bad. Wouldn't it suck if I was in ketosis all this time and just had a bad batch of strips and was killing myself for no reason? ROFL.

CR, toss some lime, lemon, cucumber, mint leaves, or orange in your water. Flavors it with no added sugar.

What would Jarod think. :( Ha! Hey. Wait for the brain fog. It's coming. It'll go to some degree as well. This is not forever. Using a syringe for that is just a little anal, don't you think? I didn't know you could still get water in California.

Have you tried the Sparkling ICE sparkling mineral water with flavors. No sugar or artificial sweeteners and they have B vitamins added. Just a thought. It made me give up my diet cokes and I drink 2 of the lemonades and 2 Dasani a day cause our local water tastes like crap and since it comes from the Ohio River I don't trust it (dead bodies and chemicals end up there ewwwww).

Sorry, Msbug. Did you say you don't drink from the Ohio River because of chemicals? You used to drink diet pop. ;) As to the added protein....

Good for you on your weight loss!

Most bottled water is just filtered tap water.

MAJOR UPDATE! Checking every few hours, and it JUST turned PURPLE! Woo hoo! So excited! I'm finally doing it right. So stoked. Yipppeee! This is super exciting. Now I just need to keep doing it. NM, I'm already having brain fog. I was trying to tell my trainer about how I wanted Hugh Jackman's triceps, but I couldn't recall Hugh Jackman's name, so I called him Wolverine. LOL. Does that count? P.S. Hugh Jackman is my favorite action hero and I really shouldn't be forgetting his name. That's a little scary...

P.S. I don't care about the plain water now that I'm in ketosis!

That didn't take long.

I know exactly about those little habits. Every morning I have to have a cup of coffee with 1 pack of sugar and a spoonful of milk. It has been my routine for years now.

Glad to hear that the tweaking of your program adherence has proved fruitful - yay! for purple pee sticks, lol!

Remember when bottled water first became the rage, with Perrier? And they advertised that it came from "a little spring in France"? Shouldn't that "little spring" have pretty much run dry by now?

Mrs Mole you could buy 2 bottles of diet Pepsi (Coke would also work) at 20 ounces each, pour the pop out, and refill the 2 bottles as needed. Tada, 40 ounces at a time!

Yay!! Glad you made it to your goal of ketosis. I don't think I could do it. And I sure hear you about the water, bleh.

I use mugs from Quick Trip, gas station/convenience chain. Add a big straw sometimes. Insulated, keeps the ice quite awhile, I do not drink warm water, hate those bottles of water. I do use the big size with the pull out top, freeze them. That way they are handy for ball games and mud runs. I also refill them. Ice melts as time goes on so it stays cold for awhile.

BTW, you may already know this, but if not, good to know. Over time the urine test strips will not turn color even if you are in ketosis. The acetoacetone they are measuring is converted to a different ketone compound that is in your blood stream instead, so you no longer eliminate that through your urine. Jimmy Moore talks about using blood monitoring or breath monitoring for better long term monitoring. But both are out of my budget right now! Just don't get discouraged if you are sticking to the plan, and the ketone strips start to fade in a few weeks. It is normal for that to happen.

Good job, FYI, it takes about 3 weeks to begin to get fat adapted to exercise (per scientific research, not "internet bro advice"). I've been <30 g for 5 weeks, and I think I can exercise as well now as before I started the ultra lo carb. Not quite as strong, but I feel fine, not sluggish and slow. good luck.

My mom never could get the strips to turn. But she was in ketosis and lost weight. She just mentioned something to me about Crystal Light? I'm not sure tho. You might want to check it out. I know I'm allowed it on my no sugar plan. Just a thought. Love your journal. Keep up the GREAT work. I'm glad you're feeling well.
