OMG finally. A major new low! And this in spite of being day 3 of NPA (no prune activity). Just wait until the prunes kick in! It's always a teeter totter, though. This low won't stick, but then in a few days, it will.

I think I have FINALLY broken though my 12 week weight loss slump and 6 week plateau. And I believe that the secret was mixing up my calories from 2000 one day to 1000 the next plus starch.

Before this, when I first lost weight, then got stuck, I was on a diet that consisted of very little in the way of gluten/bread or starch (no potatoes, bread, rice) but plenty of carbs in the way of fruit and veggies. No refined sugar whatsoever.

After weeks of experimenting, I stumbling across, in the past 12 days, adding potatoes, limited bread, and moderate rice and beans back into my diet and suddenly the weight started coming off again.

It's so weird.

I also have more energy and feel fuller. I normally don't eat fast food, but I had a Jacked Up Burrito from Del Taco yesterday (280 calories) and felt great afterward. Surprisingly healthy and fresh for a $.99 value menu item, it had rice, beans and a flour tortilla, something I wouldn't have touched a few months ago. But it gave me the energy to go the gym and do 30 hard minutes on the treadmill in spite of it being 112 degrees yesterday with a busted A/C that made the house 87 and humid.

I feel fuller and more satisfied since adding back some gluten and starch. I don't believe gluten is evil for everyone, at least not for me. I lived without it for 10 months and while I felt okay without it, I feel just dine with it. It would appear that I was starch deprived. I feel so much better after adding just a moderate amount back. My calories even went up a bit, and I also added more fat in the way of margarine for fried eggs.

Well, whatever the cause, it's the closest I've ever been to 199 and I'll take it. Woo hoo.

That is awesome, MM! I felt more satisfied by my food when I added in "healthy" carbs, and my weight loss improved too. I too felt like I wasn't eating enough carbs, and I think my body thought it was starving (same principle as too low-calorie). The type of carb and its state (if processed) effects how healthy it is and how it will affect the weight. I know that our ancestors came from a time when there were no grains, and I understand that low-carb is very good for many people, but I feel better with a little, so maybe it's a blessing to be born in this age where we have the option of having carbs. However, most of the carbs around us could be much healthier! So rock on with those healthy carbs...and the weight loss! I'm happy for you.

Nice drop!! Trial and Error, tease and please,....the body is a wonderful living organism. Trial and error to figure out from time to time what will jump start it when it hits a stall to lose the weight it accumulated to make sure we survive. Good job and good luck!

Draglist, you're so right! The more traditional foods are often fewer calories (and more filling than all that granola with the goodies. And there is something to be said for a good, old-fashioned pancake, breakfast meats and eggs! I just love the full breakfast feeling. Eating big in the morning gives me energy all day. Enjoy that vacation and keep up all that walking. I hope to be meeing you on the treadmill when you return, haha!

Great news! I learned the starch lesson a while back too. Not that I was really going low-carb before or anything, but I was severely limiting bread/rice/pasta/potatoes. I don't need it very often, but every couple days I enjoy one of the above. That's why I don't subscribe to any particular "diet," preferring to be flexible as my body tells me it needs something different.

Good job! I have never believed that there is a one plan fits all. You have to adjust when things do not change. I am thinking I need more protein.

Whole grains and potatoes are packed with nutrition, they are not empty calories. Maybe try some legumes as well.

I limit the bread, rice, and pasta to once in a while. I never did stop eating potatoes. I switched from French Fries and mashed potatoes with butter and milk to a simple baked potato with no toppings, then reduced it to half a baked potato. Then I started making potato wedges and probably eat 1/3 of a baked potato. Just a little bit of potato, like everyone else is enjoying.

I think the key is the 2000 calories one day and 1000 calories the next, I noticed someone else that was doing 600 calories every other day and 1200 calories every other day and they were loosing much faster then others, also Julian says to eat black beans, because they keep you full longer and take longer to digest.I like the udi bread, its low carb glutten free , has ancient grains, and also I make the cabbage soup , it keeps you cleaned out, so you don't get constipated.
