mrsmole's Journal, 03 Jul 14

Three salads in 2 days and this is day 3 of not having seen the bathroom walls for longer than 30 seconds, you know what I mean. I won't use the C word because it's yucky. Still, it explains the high weight. Not that I care, though, right? This is me, not stressing out over my weight. La de da, I don't care.

It's harder than it sounds.

Pounded some 2 servings of broccoli at The Outback last night in hopes of getting things moving today. Prunes, too. Today, more prunes and watermelon. Yes, I'm doing the flax seeds now, too, but I'm avoiding the magnesium, so don't ask. Even Bill's sugar-free gummies didn't work for me! Folks, it's hereditary. I'm living with it. This isn't a complaint Journal, just a statement of fact. It'll happen when it's good and ready.

In other news, the fridge no longer smells like the city morgue.

This weekend, we're laying the last of the flooring in the laundry room and I expect to burn about 1000 calories a day for 2 days, so that's a big plus.

im sorry, hope you pass soon then your weight will go down too... i think youd be a great vegetarian though! first of all veggies should pass slower, second you will not have b12 deficiency.

I'm sorry, I had to laugh, because I have the same problem on occasion I learned the hard way not to double up on the little pink pills. A national lampoon movie comes to mind when I think about it.. haha. I hope it sorts itself out soon for you.

Maud, it's ironic how many veggies I've had considering that I'm not generally a fan of veggies. I'm trying to think of other high volume food I can eat to mooove things along. Any ideas? Sixteen ounces of watermelon did cause some rumblings. I'm waiting to see if that yields anything soon.

Good Luck!

Have you tried laxatives? Some people need to take them every day to keep things flowing. I take them occasionally when needed. Don't wait until you haven't gone for 3 days before taking them. If you don't go for one day, take them. Don't let yourself suffer. Have you mentioned it to a doctor or a naturopath?

Actually, there's quite a variation. Normal can be anywhere from a couple of times a day to up to 5 days. Of course the laxative companies have a far different view than this. One guy was selling a diet plan that would allow you go after every meal and only then could you be considered healthy. The once a day thing is very arbitrary.

I get stomach cramps and bloating if I don't go every day. NM, I highly doubt going once every 5 days is normal or healthy.

Plus, MM is experiencing discomfort and I was offering a suggestion that is effective. I don't believe laxatives are as bad as most people think.

I'm not saying not to if there's discomfort. Normal is not to say average. The 'experts' vary widely.

MM, in terms of foods that might help expedite things, have you tried edamame? I have a half cup a few times a week. Good protein bang for the buck plus the fiber. Also nuts as a snack. That one's trickier since the calorie count is high for the volume. Berries help as well. I go thru a LOT of Trader Joe's Very Cherry Berry Blend. Great in a smoothie or just eat em frozen ;-) Oh, and congrats on the fridge and good luck w/ the flooring!

I mentioned in my original post that I do not wish to try the magnesium. My reason is that it's a stimulant and I become dependent overnight. I'm against stimulants/laxatives is because I've gone down that road before and my body get INSTANTLY and I mean INSTANTLY addicted to them. As in, after I use them once, my body's ability to move things along shuts down completely. It takes me 3-5 weeks of painful and difficult waiting to get back to normal and makes this 3 day thing look like nothing. Both my parents were irregular, and my doctor (and several prior doctors) have told me that this is just my cross to bear. No amount of fiber or roughage does the trick. I know it sounds hard to believe. He thinks that I have an oddly shaped colon with sharp angles (hence the heredity possibility) because massage is the only thing that helps on occasion. Two to three days is about "normal" for me and it's not uncomfortable until it gets to about five days, then it really sucks. But there comes a point where I will go and get a colonic. Only about once a year if it gets that bad, luckily. I'm always reluctant to mention this in my Journal posts anymore because it's so chronic. I wish I had a code for it. Some kind of shorthand. NPA = No Prune Action. And if you have to ask, you don't know me well enough to need to know, LOL. Just kidding. I think tonight at the gym will get things going!

Not that I don't appreciate everything from my friends! Thank you all. I had a little relief, but not nearly enough. Hoping for more by morning.

Dealing with this has to be frustrating for you. Even though it's hereditary and not unexpected, that doesn't make it easier to bear I'm sure. If Murphy's Law is alive and well, things will kick into action tomorrow precisely at the moment that you're at a crucial grout/glue drying stage and every hand in the house is needed.

Did you find something in the fridge or did it finally just quit smelling??
04 Jul 14 by member: dboza
I had some activity in the night. As expected, it hardly effected my weight. So weird how it makes me heavier when I don't go, but then when I finally do, it doesn't seem to make a dent. Weird. As for the fridge, I cleaned every shelf wit vinegar and I think the culprit was a drawer that was coated with dried fish juice (eww!) and it's now 95% better, though I still swear I smell a faint remnant.

P.S> Husband says I'm nuts,. He smells nothing. He's probably right that I'm nuts.

MM, is there magnesium in the pills? Or are you just talking about the powder? My body never became reliant on the pills. But we're all different. I feel bad that you have this problem.
04 Jul 14 by member: ChristyLA
I've always suspected that "Convince wife she's nuts" is covered in section 1 of the Husband Handbook.
