mrsmole's Journal, 27 Apr 14

So busy with the new dog and staying steady on the eating plan, I haven't checked in much, but all is well. Gym training goes well with a focus on upper body due to my inability to sit comfortably for a few days. It's TMI for a public Journal, but let's just say my upper body workouts are going great and I will return to normalcy next week.

In case I never mentioned it before, I don't believe in "cheat days". I have changed my perception of food to the point that I don't believe there is any food left I'd want to eat that I cannot eat now. Example: Yesterday, I wanted to eat 12 pieces of bacon, so I did. I made it part of my brunch and worked the rest of the day's calories around it, and I didn't have to cheat or take a day off of my diet to do so.

Things that used to tempt me before (like jelly beans at Easter) no longer do because I see them now as ugly little turds that made me fat. LOL. It's funny how once you can get a formerly favorite food to become an enemy like that, it totally loses it's appeal. And since I know I am not capable of have 12 jelly beans like I can have 12 pieces of bacon, I must abstain from jelly beans. And let's face it, you CAN live without a jelly bean. Heck, you can live without bacon, too, but I'd rather not think about that. :)

You can live without bacon? I love how you call jelly beans ugly little turds, there are a few foods I need to start calling that. Hope the new dog's house training is going ok. He is worth it!

Love your post. I have the same mindset on cheat days for myself (not telling anyone else what to do). My SIL was trying to lose weight when I started my new plan and would have a cheat day. Well that didn't last long as she didn't have a plan for her cheat days and ate whatever she wanted. She became frustrated gaining back what she lost during the week.

New pups take time. All pups take time. My glories are outside in the now light rain escaping having their toes trimmed. They don't like pedis! I did that with bacon a couple weeks ago. Had decided to cook some really good bacon so I could use the crumbles later in the week. I ate it all for dinner instead--was a great treat. Just worked it into my average for the week. Then I was wishing I still had some to put on salad.

Glories?? Where did that come from? Dang spell check. Should have been goofies.

I think bacon should be mandatory in all diets. I can do without the little turds.

Yup on bacon. I did have a few little gourmet type turds at the Easter dinner at friends none at my house. They were pretty good for an annual treat.

Good for you on the bacon, you made me laugh talking about those jelly bean turds though. Keep up the great work you are doing.

I don't overly splurge or have cheat days either. If I splurge, I do it as healthy as possible and incorporate it into my day so that I don't go over my RDI. I look at sugar like an enemy too :) I know I can't handle it and that it could lead me right back to where I started. A bowl of cereal did that to me once! So I know it's not worth the risk. And simply the fact that sugar is really unhealthy makes me have no desire to have it.

I hope that those people who love jelly beans read your journal! :)

Your jelly bean comment SO reminded me of the Moose M&M dispenser. I've seen them made from wood. Move the moose's head and his tail lifts and "dispenses" the M&Ms. That's enough to put you off those things for life!

Hahaha. Good to hear from you. I stopped declaring I was having "cheat days" because I don't believe in them anymore either. I just have some days that I come closer to approaching the RDI I set for myself, and then I have days that I'm under by 200-300. As long as my average stays around 1350 per day, I'm good. I have been wanting some of my java chip ice cream for the last 3 days, but because I had pasta yesterday and a little of the leftovers today, there just wasn't any extra for ice cream, so I didn't get to have any. Sorry, you saints with your no sugar. I eat more than some, but way less than I used to. That's as good as it's going to get for me!

Most people prefer a good and healthy diet plan. I too don't believe in cheat days. I just try to manage between meals whatever little things I like. Maintaining weight needs some strictness. And, weight loss needs even more strictness.
