mrsmole's Journal, 22 Mar 14

My pizza cravings are over. And so it the pity party. Second place is something to be proud of. I'm glad I did it. And the link is below for anyone who wants to see it!

I got a phone call from the District Governor this morning. He's in charge of over 400 clubs and he was at my speech contest last night. He said I should have taken first and he has no idea what the judges saw. Hearing that from him was worth way more than a trophy.

He said I inspired the entire audience, him included. It changed my entire outlook. The outcome didn't change, but my attitude did.

I also watched the video and I saw that I could have made far better use of the stage area. There were things I could have done far better, and that consoles me.

P.S. The winner, Cesar, told a story about growing up poor town in Mexico around drugs and gangs and how he became a U.S. DEA agent. He didn't have a message, but it was about how he rose above his environment, and it resonated with many. At the end, he slipped in a story about a drug lord who donated all his money to an orphanage, but he told it in the last 15 seconds after the red light came on, so it was rushed and confusing, but the rest was inspirational, and that was all he needed for the win. I don't have his video, sorry.

If he catches a cold for the next contest, I will step in for him as second place winner. It doesn't happen often, but it happens. However, I do not wish him ill. I hope he takes it all the way. It was a good speech and he won fair and square, even if it didn't have an encouraging message for the audience to think about.

Here's the link to my video. It was shot for the side, and my tummy is still swollen from my being sick, but at least the sound is good!

Thanks to all again for support. I'll give the speech again, only this time after 100 pounds! LOL

As a bonus, I hit my end of month goal this morning and that puts me ahead of the game and encourages me to just keep it up all the more.

Hugs to all for a super weekend,
Dom

Why not take him to one of your business meeting things. Make him a guest speaker and feed him what you ate there the last time the week before the next competition. ROFL No. Maybe not. Nice to get the feedback from the Governor. *sigh* I'm a horrible person. *smirk*

NM, I love the way you think. Two weeks of the Montezuma's revenge would serve him right for wiping the floor with me, at the contest, wouldn't it? Haha. Seriously, he worked hard, he told a good story (some thought), and this is me trying to be a gracious second place winner. My hubby said next time I should wear a pin-striped suit and look like a business banker. more "professional". I said when I get down to 180, I will. Meanwhile, suits make me look like a cardboard box when I'm a size 18 still. :(

That was great! I'm so relieved that the Governor called you with his take on the contest. We've all been in a situation at one time or another where things were not judged fairly. I'm just sorry it happened to you on a topic that is so near-and-dear to your heart.

Thank you, Gillian. I've decided that maybe the judges may just need to see a little more proof. Next year at this time, I plan to weigh about 60 pounds less. I will wear a really snazzy, tailored pin-striped business suit and some 3.5" oxford loafer high heels. I'll give the speech again, only this time, my total will be about 125 pounds, nearly half my weight. It's a terrific motivator to get me the rest of the way there, and as if that wasn't enough, I have all of you to cheer me on, and this video to commemorate my "half-way mark". Woo hoo!
