During my travels last week, I was off my game and lost momentum, but now that I'm home, I'm walking more and back to a controlled eating routine, so doing better. I had set up a calendar of weight loss using an online calculator which set out a mathematically steady progression of losses. I'm now way behind that pace, but it is inspiring me to walk more and stay focused. My body and mind are just too complicated to squeeze into an algorithm. Setting time deadlines on weight loss has never worked out well for me. If it gets to making me feel like I'm failing I'll drop it. For now, it's still keeping me on my toes. What about you all? Does setting a time-bound goal help or hurt your motivation?

Glad to hear huh you're back on track and seeing results. Indeed, I find that even the most modest weekly goals never seem to be achieved, and not because I didn't put in 100%. It's as if there's some internal saboteur that's going to make sure I won't have the reward. This week I've been going up and down the same .6 lbs. Frustrating and discouraging. (And no, I'm not losing inches either!) I know it will come if I stay persistent. The whole business of CICO and metrics leads us to believe weight loss is reliably linear but bodies don't care. There is so much going on in a body that remains unaccounted for with a CICO model.

I don’t do well with timed weight loss goals. This time around, I’m just watching my carbs, fats and calories. I really love the info on this FS site that shows me where my calories come from. I’m trying to follow Lonnie’s advice and pay strict attention to as many days as I can. When the occasions that I can’t control come along, (called life) I want to participate. But then, I tighten my belt and disciplines to regain control back. In the past, as soon as I ate anything “off” plan I would be doomed to failure. I’ll admit, it’s tough coming back from a week of vacation etc. I really have to dig my heels in to gain control. Recording everything seems to be helping me to keep myself accountable. When I overeat, The red % (on the list view) of our RDI is like a blinking light 💡bulb to me. Onwards my FS buddies.

I try to impose a discipline, but then things happen and I slip. Today, I had coffee with cream for breakfast and then went out to garden. I got into some heavy pruning of an overgrown hedge and after an hour of that I felt faint. My DH had a low carb protein bar along, so I sat down to eat it so that I could carry on. Well it was my full carb allotment for the day. I finished the task, but now I'm a little off track for the day. Just an example of how life happens!

Sometimes I end up setting unrealistic goals. But I also realize if I keep myself checked then I'm off my game.

We're all doing trial and error and sharing our results, so that we can learn from each other and our own successes and stumbles.

This is a process of trial and discovery (not error!) I feel good knowing I make the choices and the results will show itself out. We are a work in progress and its good you are realistic we will never have the bodies we were in in our youth so enjou this journey enjoy the view and have fun doing it!
