melissatwa's Journal, 13 Aug 20

I'm lifting and walking a lot, but I'm only running up to two days a week lately. I am surprised that keeping cardio conditioning is going OK even with running being so infrequent. I remember when I first managed 3 miles in 30 minutes and was so excited, and now it isn't nearly as hard! Slow progress!

My favorite purple roses are back in full bloom!

Yes, slow but surely progress is the secret. Isn't it amazing how quickly the body advances to its next level?

Don't you know it, Groatmeal! Hey, you actually do! 😁 Silkian, sometimes the movement seems so slow until looking back at what used to be so, so hard! Erquiaga, that is exactly opposite of what I learned years ago, which was so wrong! I remember eating so much to give myself energy for the constant cardio I thought I needed. A different balance has surely had different results!!! I have really been working on lifting faithfully, #One, so you may be totally right! I'd I was going baxk to the gym, which looks like it will happen in about a week, I think I will be rowing when the weather is bad to be outside, but stairs are grand for sure... Well the machines! Then your knees don't have to cry going down! 😁 Blessings, Mel! 😁

You're doing great, Melissa. You're so strong. Your rose bushes are ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! You certainly rival any gardener in the world when it comes to roses. 🌹

Do you collect the rose hips to make tea with? I buy them dried. The tea is delicious.

Thank you, Shir! You lift my spirits with your friendship! Lonnie, that praise is too high, but thank you! I try really hard to care for them well, and they give me great joy! Thank you, Princess!!! So much of the credit for my taking lifting seriously goes to you and your man and Chris. I didn't realized how much of an impact it could make in how I could feel! I am so grateful for both your example and encouragement!

Kenna, I don't get hips, because I dead head the blooms long before they form in order to promote continual flowering. I do have a wild rose bush with some beautiful looking hips. Maybe instead of leaving them for the birds, I should get some for myself! 😁

carol655, you are very sweet! Thank you! And... I think in the picture my "purple" roses do look rather pink. 😁 They are darker when first opening and turn to a more pale violet color as the blooms mature. 💜

I have heard that strength training will improve running, & I'm trying that myself. So far I can't really tell, 'cause I always slack off on running during the summer, LOL! But I've been doing squats, deadlift & lunges at least, so trying to get back into running - we'll see how it goes.

I guess it would make sense it would help, Taurielfan! I had not thought of it that way! If the old legs are stronger then they don't have to work as hard in all their functions?! 😁 Good luck on getting your running back in gear! 😁

Your rose bushes are huge compared to my little 3-Bush pot. 😂😂 I have two more buds today though. I think it likes me talking to it...”now little bush, grow big and beautiful like Melissa’s rose bushes okay!!” 🥰🥰

Awesome Progress!

Hahaha! Wifey! ❤️ That bush with the yellow roses is nearly six foot tall and at least 8 ft at its widest (from the other angle). I should send you a picture of what it was just a few years ago! Just knee high! Actually, it wasn't much taller than that this spring after I wacked it down in a hard prune. Roses love to grow!!!!! You tell your little bush that I am cheering for it to perform wonderfully!!

3 miles in 30 is great. I'm at 3 miles in 45 minutes and trying hard!
