SoCalPam's Journal, 24 Aug 18

Today is a good day: I'm officially down 20 pounds. I've been fooling around a bit, but my weight has mostly been inching down, sometimes by an ounce. I'm discovering some things about my body and my brain that are changing my relationship with food and that has taken some getting used to. Brand new is the fructan thing. I don't seem to have a wheat sensitivity as much as one to fructans so I have much more to read about that as well as figuring out how to cook.

I love the support here! Our challenges are all different but our goals are the same: to be healthy. I haven't had as much weight to lose as some, but it may be a little more than others. We all have our journey.

Now for the next 20 :)

you are kicking it and I think you will find that with your exercise and finding foods that mess with you, the weight loss will be easier. offending foods in my mind slow our progress. my weight is running off me without eating the foods I have issues with.

Thanks, all! Baskington, you helped me so much by pointing me in the direction of Kenna's post about fructans. I don't know if it's completely my issue or not, but I have something to think about and explore. Who knows what I'll learn during the process? ! This morning hubby had a bagel for breakfast and for the first time I wasn't smelling it and thinking, "Oh yum, I want one." Now all I have to do is consider the discomfort I'll have if I eat it and the choice is clear.

20# is great - all your hard work is certainly paying off!

yes all you can do is test the foods that are in question to see if they effect you. some onions were not as high as others. whole garlic is less too versus powdered. You may just have problem with wheat/glutens or it could be the fructans. either way you have things you can check out. that is a good thing. It is amazing how as we mature things change.

Another nice plus: I donated blood last night and my blood pressure was 120/68. It hasn't been that low in a LONG time. No wheat means a lot less sodium in my system, both from the bread and from the things I eat with it (processed lunch meat, butter, etc.)
