Fatboy199's Journal, 27 Jun 18

I weighed myself this morning and a big smile came over my face. Sure, it was just one pound lighter on the scale but it was so much more than that. It was an opportunity to face failure head on and meet the challenge.
Last week, I weighed myself 3 or 4 times and I had good success. By Friday morning, I was at 281, having lost another 2.5lbs.
So what did I do? I ate a large pizza! Who doesn't?
On Saturday morning I weighed 2.5 lbs heavier.
By Sunday morning, I weighed in at just a little under 285. I had gained again...uh oh! I was going in the wrong direction and going fast!
I was facing a real gut check, did I really want this? Was I serious?
Sure, I read all your journal entries and some of you are real pros at this!
Jimmpypop, Draglist and a few others evidently can go days on sheer willpower...but not this guy, I am admittedly a weak person who is try at the ripe old age of 55 to better myself.
For me, this is a process and I want this to last for the rest of my life, so losing weight, a 100lbs or more, getting more disciplined and actually finishing something I start is my goal here.
I expect to fall down...you don't get to be 308lbs by being disciplined and conscientious about food choices or any other choices in life now do ya?
Today, I weighed in at 280, and it felt good! For many reasons and none more important than not giving up on myself!

Good for you! You’re right, it is a process and everyone is different. Not giving up is the hardest part, but also the best part when we finally achieve what we thought we couldn’t. Keep on keepin’ on! ✊

One pound at a time! That’s what it takes and you will get where you want to be. Do not give up on yourself! I believe in you!🙂

I feel your pain my brother. At 55 I’m in the same boat. I was down 35 lbs in May of 16 and then lost my way for two years. Back to the starting line with a little penalty distance to boot. I’ve come to look at it like my mortgage; I borrowed all those calories for the past 15 years, and now I have to pay them back or declare bankruptcy. Neither option is very appealing, but the former will be better in the end. Stay strong.

Train the brain! I'm closing in on 55 myself and have a lifetime of "Just one more" in my quiver as well as "I've already eaten this so I might as well eat that..." These are tools that have harmed, not helped me. THIS warrior princess needs effective useful tools, so I've been training myself in new habits. I clean something or take a walk before every snack (telling myself I am "earning" it. The byproduct is that I often don't want the snack after doing something else. No more eating out of boredom or laziness!). I have had pizza once in this past month and I measured my piece, ate it slowly, enjoyed it, and knew I could go back for half a slice more (to stay within my RDI for the day), which was also rewarding. When I know I'm having a meal in a restaurant, I try to pick an establishment with an online menu so I can make choices ahead of time instead of getting caught up in the good smells and visuals in the restaurant. These things are working for me and I've lost 10 pounds in my first month on FS. Logging every day is so beneficial. Okay, off my soap box. I'm super glad for you and I hope the downward trend continues.

To each of you, I say thank you. Sunday, I was literally talking to myself! I was not quitting...and even though I do not always engage on this page, I am reading and absorbing your wins, losses, and your assessments. Hugs to all of you!

It's a battle for a lot of us. We're just learning that we can win it most days, and how not to let the little bumps along the way knock us completely off track. It ain't always easy, but it's sure worth it!

So proud of you! I really believe it's all about attitude and embracing the change of lifestyle.

We have to stick to creating a lifestyle we can live with forever. We are doing it!

I totally understand. It is a process. After 8 years on this site, constantly looking at MY numbers, I was able to see what works for me and what doesn't. This is what I used to make my decisions.

Proud of all of you. And yes, it is a process, like riding a bike. There are knees to get scratched...
