Honestly, I don't know if I can actually lose the 50 pounds I have gained. I seem to have gained it 1 pound or 2 per year since I was 120 pounds when I was 20. Now I am 60 and weigh 170 - I actually started accelerating weight gain after my divorce. Will keep working at it though.

If I can do it you can. My theory: Find a way that works with how you like to eat and cook. Tweak what you like, add more veggies, get rid of the junk food, processed foods and soda if you drink it. Then tweak it more along the way as you find what is working and your tastes change some. I was 63 when I decided I's had enough of the yoyo diets and had to find something that worked. I was 192 and was down to 130, some gain over the past year partly because of health issues and meds so 138 at the moment.

Hi Abbadabba. Yes you can! Like Wholefoodnut I was 63 when I decided to start on Fatsecret and finally lose the weight which had built up over the years. I'm only losing it very slowly but in 25 months I've lost almost 40 lbs! I weighed 172 lbs when I started so very similar to you. I've done it mainly through calorie counting, and eating natural foods as much as possible with plenty of fruit and veg. I also had to cut down hugely on alcohol. Look forward to your new slimmer self 😊

Next month is the sixtieth anniversary of my birth, so I understand. It takes more mental effort than physical, but I have lost seventeen pounds since last August. Switching to keto accelerated the loss.

It may seem impossible now, but it isn't. So many people on this site have done it and they are always willing to share with you how.

You've lost 15 lbs already. You've proven you can lose weight. You're doing great. Just keep at it. Every lb loss is making you healthier. Don't worry so much about getting all the way to goal. You don't really know exactly what number on the scale is right for you today. We are not 20 anymore. Just focus on eating well, continuing to lose and exercising. Strengthening our muscles as we age is imperative...and go easy on yourself. ❤️️

Sweetie maybe go even deeper in search of this..you stated its been a problem ever since your divorce that you have been gaining...this may go hand in hand and a reason ... sometimes we turn to food because a situation we are going through is just to painful and we are in search of comfort so we turn to food...its just a thought;)

So on my journey I learned I had to confront myself. My first DH 20+ years, kids dad and a super nice guy went nuts and turned physically abusive, second DH seemed so supportive, married him after a few years, he turned crazy as well and mentally abusive. OK is it me or the man in my life? So huge issues here. I had to face all the demons that was so hard. The journey to getting healthy is not all in what you eat or exercise but the mental demons you have to face to get you feeling OK with yourself. It's a hard journey and to get healthy it is also means you need to be healthy in your mind. This is my take on the world, many will not agree. I feel good about my life now but still struggle with being able to do everything myself. I also still fight the abuse flashbacks and doubts. It is a challenging journey. I'm lucky I have 3 daughters and their spouses who support me and all my amazing grandkids. My life is good.

Wholefoodnut and Doobrie are talking sense as usual. I too am dealing with many issues that surround my weight and food for me. 🤷🏻‍♀️No lie, junkfood tastes good! If it has sweets all the better, the pleasure centers in our brain are triggered and that is massively addictive! It’s why runners will push themselves! Gee, we get a cheap ‘runner’s high’ like feeling and all we have to do is slowly kill ourselves with processed sugar laden junk food! LOL 😆 sounds really healthy, right? It’s one of the reasons I’m getting stubborn enough to change my eating patterns. I don’t want to give the big company ‘pushers’ any more money for this crappy practice.

Smprowett, I love our attitude!! Junk food it designed to taste amazing and addict the person eating it to it. If you eat whole natural food for awhile those processed fake food mostly don't even taste good any longer. Often you can even taste the chemicals. Try it for a few months, I say 3 and see what happens. Honestly for me the chemicals do not taste even close to good. My question is: Why do you want to put all those chemicals most are made of into your body to start with?

Wholefoodnut cause process food taste good, I can't even taste the chemicals 😅
