Well, it seems my exercise and changing my eating habits are finally starting to pay off. Unlike what it seems most people's goals are, I am not "dieting" per se. I am changing my diet, period. Lifestyle, eating habits, whatever you want to call it. My main goal is to be healthy and at a healthier weight than I was. I am not into fad diets because although you may lose weight with those, once you stop the diet, the weight will eventually come back. I have cut out a lot of refined sugars, especially high fructose corn syrup, when possible, removing as many processed foods from my diet as possible and eating more fruits, vegetables, nuts, lots of fish, chicken, yogurt and whole grains. I'm not starving myself and I'm not depriving myself. I have a small chocolate treat every night after dinner, it is enough to satisfy my craving. It is amazing how my body has adjusted to the changes in my eating and I am satisfied, hunger wise. I have found I no longer have to "fight cravings" because what my body craves is the healthy foods I have been consuming. I also like the fact that I am hopefully setting an example for good eating habits with my children. Since I have shifted my exercise focus to more weight training than cardio, I have definitely gained plenty of muscle, especially in my upper body. I still have my problem areas, like most women: my hips and thighs and a little belly thanks to 2 pregnancies that I didn't bother to exercise during or immediately after. I have great ab muscles underneath, but not sure that I will ever really be able to completely get rid of the pooch. At least it is getting smaller!! I am already down 1 pant size and am hoping to lose enough (10 lbs or so) to get down 1 more. Hopefully the changes I am making are something that I can continue with the rest of my life and just maintain, adjusting my caloric intake when necessary due to age/activity level.
