abbadabba's Journal, 07 Dec 09

Today I am going back on my fast food diet - seems like I did better when I went out and bought breakfast and lunch from the local fast food places, and kept track of the calories. Those places measure carefully - they don't give out extra! So when I have a Happy Meal, I know just what I am getting!

Went to a rollerskating party yesterday with my Girl Scout Brownies (7 year olds!) and we had fun! I bought a fried dough - it was the worst fried dough I ever ate! Never would have thought I would throw out half but I did - they had cooked them ahead of time in rancid oil and then microwaved them to heat them up! Yuck.

Gotta get back on task here - I read in Reader's Digest that people who exercise 5 days a week lose more weight if they do 3 days cardio and 2 days strength training, as opposed to 5 days of cardio. This month I am revising more space to include my treadmill that got jammed into a corner when the bathroom work started - I do have a lot of time now that I am single-ish. No excuses.

Community: I am making a list of places to go and things to do. I seem to do best if I have a schedule and activities to anticipate. I gave up some things where the members were grating on my nerves - that frees up some time and some mental energy! But I am currently adrift, and need to get a course set for spring so I don't wallow!

Thank you to those who keep coming back to FS to stay on this Journey!

Have a great day everyone!

I do the weight training everyother day and the cardio on the days I do not do the weight. It seems to be working. I think that it is all about the calories in and exercise out. Do what is best for you!

Don't be so quick to leave things just because some people are anoying you. Everyone has their bad days, and now they are still there enjoying themselves, and your not, KWIM? Don't let them win! I wish I had some "groups" to join around here, but other than playing tennis, I don't know what else I would do. Anyway, have a great week!

right now I do the following hobby things: leader for elementary grade Girl Scouts. Hospitality committee for the Historic Society. Tour guide for historic house (summer only). I used to be on the board for Girl Scouts in my town, but now I don't enjoy that - I am running two events though so that should be fun. I can always go back, MoTG, and I will do what I can to be grateful that I live in a socially active area!

Strength training definitely helps weight loss. I have an exercise DVD called Muscle Eats Fat and I always think of that. It's true. Muscles need energy/cals and the more muscles you have the more energy your body will burn. Plus it feels good to get stronger--whereas the benefits of cardio are sometimes harder to see and feel. Just make sure you get the right positions. There are a ton of great videos on youtube where you can see the proper form.

I think it is great to leave behind what does not work for you any longer. :) Way to be true to yourself! I would highly recommend volunteer work. If you love animals there are many shelters, soup kitchens and food pantries need help, reading to the blind, helping the elderly with household chores or raising a Fidelco Guide Dog are all wonderful volunteer efforts. Think about what you love to do and find volunteer opportunities to match up to those loves. :) Have fun!

The stregth training seems to do more for me on days that I have perceptible muscle tension -- just my own perspective any way. Sometimes just doing something BESIDES cardio FEELS good. Good luck with the calorie counting! You can do it!
