Had my appointment for fatness. Had labs and EKG. Got prescription for Zepbound and now in process of changing pharmacies because our Walgreens is made up of morons and I was told the savings card won't work because it isn't FDA approved. It is, in fact, FDA approved and has been for a few months- so I switched to another pharmacy. In the meantime- I guess I have hypothyroidism. I definitely have the symptoms- crazy thin hair so I switched to wigs, intolerance to cold, etc... but when I had it checked 7-8 years ago, I was told it was fine so maybe then it was and now it isn't? I'd like to say it is the reason for my weight gain, but I suspect it is the 3000 calorie a day diet. Anyhoo- that's the update. Took my first synthroid today- also Vit D deficient. Supposedly severely deficient= but that seems a bit dramatic to me. I will be thrilled if I get some hair back. I adore my wigs and they are so much prettier than regular hair but when I don't wear a wig- it would be nice to have the option of not looking terrible.

Years ago, I was hypothyroid, had every symptom, but couldn't get a diagnosis because I tested in "normal" range. A few years ago, they discovered normal should be 0.3-3.0, not the old standard of 0.5-4.5. And even with the new standard, a lot of us do better on the lower end of the scale. If you still have symptoms, but are in what's considered acceptable range, don't be afraid to advocate for yourself to try a higher dose. You may end up being amazed the difference that getting the right dose can make.

I hope getting all this sorted out helps you feel like the best version of yourself soon.

I have Hashimotos disease which is an autoimmune disease that attacks the thyroid. It causes a low thyroid and severe hair loss, feeling lethargic etc. It is common to have vitamin D, vitamin B and magnesium deficiency when you have a low thyroid. Take a supplement . It truly helps. I take collagen as well because my thyroid issues cause havoc with hair loss and weak finger nails. I just put it in coffee in morning. Of course your eating is why you gained weight but a low thyroid can make you extremely hungry. It made me feel hungry all the time! Keep in top of testing your thyroid because it often takes time to find the right dose. Remember, it takes about 6 weeks for meds to work so keep that in mind. The brain fog you may feel and tiredness is also a sign of low thyroid. All these will get better as you get meds in your system. As for foods, well you can research this on your own but they say nightshade vegetables and processed foods are not good for thyroid. My endocrinologist says the nightshade vegetables have more good things than bad if eaten in moderation to really hurt your thyroid. Processed foods are more harmful. Wishing you much luck in this new journey!💜

Sounds like you had some healing to do. Getting a better balance will help you with your other goals as well. Sending good thoughts

I hope this is just what you need to get back on track. My daughter has hypothyroidism & was told for a while that her ranges were normal. She found a doctor more familiar with the problem that helped her by prescribing the proper meds & monitoring the results. I tested low for vitamin D my last appt. so I take a supplement.

I, too, have Hashimotos, and have been taking Synthroid for 30 years now. Although a regular MD can prescribe the synthroid, Diana 1234 is totally correct that it takes time to get the right dosage and needs to be re-checked after a time to see if it needs to be tweaked. The other important thing is to make sure that you take it properly. You need to take it on an empty stomach with a full glass of water and then wait an hour (ideally) before eating. The hardest thing for me is not having coffee for an hour, but there have been several studies done that show that drinking coffee tends to “push” the synthroid through your system more quickly and absorption is lessened. I think you will feel better and have more energy, less brain fog and thicker hair in a few months. 👍🏻

Broccolibabe, Yes! You are absolutely right about time of day to take it and always on an empty stomach! My Dr says 1/2 hour is sufficient for coffee/ food consumption..who knows...I have heard of people taking it B4 bed so they get it through system thoroughly. I'm afraid it will effect my horrible sleeping so I haven't tried that

Hadn't heard of the coffee thing, broccolibabe. I do drink coffee (black) right after taking mine, but I'm dialed in with my dose with that habit, so I'm not going to mess with it. To a certain extent, I was told, as long as your habits are consistent, they can get you dosed properly. I have heard that mineral supplements within 4 hours can interfere, so I take my multivitamin and calcium at night.

You’re a hot mamma Princess 🌞🌞🌞 I get it 100 percent . I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism as well ( I had the symptoms.. but was diagnosed after constant persistence .. I had to convince the Dr I wasn’t feeling right ) .. I’m happy the lab work helped figure things out .. my dr prescribed vitamin D along with the Synthroid .

Glad you are upping your Vitamin D because being deficient can cause problems. My hair is thin now and just hoping it doesn't get any thinner as I hate wigs. I tried them when I was going thru chemo and ended up wearing hats.

We could start a club. Also hypothyroid (diagnosed after my daughter was born) and low Vitamin D. No way of knowing if I had poor thyroid function before. Yes, important to take synthroid on empty stomach (my habit that finally works is any time after 5 am) but also take the vitamin D with food (needs fat to be absorbed) so I take that with dinner, 5000 IU twice a week. My hair is ok but synthroid can’t help my waning eyebrows. Hope the new weight loss medication works for you.

@RhumbaGirl .. right? same club! I have Hashi's, diagnosed about 10 years ago. I take my Levoxthyrine before I get out of bed with a full glass of water. need to not eat for 30 min after taking it so it can do its job. and you are so right, vitamin D w food or 🤢

In 2019 it was 3.07. Yesterday it was 11.7. I knew it had to be taken separately from food because I've been giving it to my residents for years but I specifically looked up if I could take it with my coffee and, as you all already mentioned- no. So I got my pill at 430 and patiently waited until 5:15ish for my coffee but it wasn't fun. Lol. I'm super excited. It wasn't too long ago that I wrote that post about feeling off and wondering about hormone replacement therapy, thinking my brain fog was menopause or perimenopause related so this is thrilling. I just wrongly assumed that getting older feels like shit. Also took my first zepbound shot this evening.

I am 12 years post ablation. Not the most fun I have ever had but continual tweaking eventually made me feel human. I now take my vitamin late in the afternoon. Seems to work for me. Good Luck! You got this!

I can relate but I went to an endocrinologist to get my thyroid in check and once the meds got right it was the biggest difference. I don’t believe PCP’s do it right so therefore I see my endo and she has helped my husband and I tremendously. Though he no longer has his thyroid he’ll be on meds forever but I’ve read several articles about people that put their health first and was able get off their Synthroid after reaching their goal weight etc and that’s what I’m working on now. I just want to have to take my vitamins and that’s it🙏🏻. Also having a complete hysterectomy due to so many issues, I felt like a new person! DP and everyone that has their issues, I hope all goes well and move forward to being healthier and just feeling good in general☀️🌼

This is a really interesting post. Since my 30s I have thinning hair in the past 5 years and I could sleep 10-12 hours a day if given the chance. The hair part is such a confidence killer when my hair used to be bountiful, now it just breaks off and is so thin you can see through to my scalp. DP and Diana is it worth getting checked? I totally feel this post. Sending support ❤️

I'd say it's totally worth getting checked, JC. It's just a simple blood test
