Fritzy 22's Journal, 13 Nov 23

Called early today to see if I could get an appointment with my doctor. Was told he was booked until December but they would send him an urgent message about my knee pain.

The knee actually feels much better today. I think the pain on the left side of the knee may be from the compression sleeve. I can walk, slowly without too much limping. If I try to do too much, then I get some pain. Got a call that there was a cancellation and could I be there at 11:30. So happy to see my regular doctor. He examined the knee, pushing and pulling it in all directions. The knee isn't swollen and nothing he did hurt it. We couldn't figure out why the knee just stopped supporting my weight one morning. But he said the ligaments are strong, not to worry about the bone spurs at this time and physical therapy isn't needed yet. Staying off my feet and keeping the knee elevated has helped in the healing process and I am healing. He said to keep on doing what I am doing and I can take Bobby for a short walk and then figure out how far I can walk without pain. He said I could get a cortisone shot if needed for pain. I told him the pain isn't that bad. So I feel better about everything. Since I was in Grass Valley at lunchtime I got 2 tacos at Jimboy's with a diet coke (I wanted a regular Coke but not that bad) before coming home.

Thanks Morticia and Kat. I had planned on making a salad today but since I left the doctor's office at lunchtime and Jimboy's was so close I decided iced on tacos. The knee is hurting a little now but I still feel good knowing my doctor said it is healing. Although he said it will probably be at least another 5 weeks or so. I'll figure out how much I can do

I'm so happy you got in to see the Dr, it really helps to have reassurance even if it's not fixed. sending hugs 🌻

That's good news that your doctor thinks your knee is healing. When you feel up to it, you might want to incorporate some exercises into your day to strengthen the muscles in your legs that, in turn, help the knees. My routine at the gym includes Calf lifts & leg raises (lying on my back). I sometimes had some pain in my knees when walking & these do seem to have helped. Just Google exercises to help knees.

Thanks Diana and JC, even though I know I have some healing to do at least my doctor was sure I wouldn't need surgery and probably not even physical therapy. I know quite a few people who have had knee replacement surgery including my brother in law and my next door neighbor! My house sitter is waiting for the procedure. So I was really getting scared.

Thanks Sherry, the exercises sound like a good idea. My exercise of choice is walking in my neighborhood which is full of hills. Once the weather cooled down I started with walks from 2-5 miles. After about 4 days I woke up with the knee pain. Can't (won't) believe that walking caused the problem.

Thanks Abdominal, I'll either get used to the pain and not notice it so much or, hopefully, ill heal with rest.
