Resenting the husband: I apologize in advance to all you guys out there, working hard to get helathy, losing weight and exercising! But I had a flash of insight today, watching the hubster walk by in his bike shorts. Indeed, he has lost lots of weight (boo!) but on the other hand, it didn't really take any effort on my part, other than only buying healthy food for the family (except for one weekly bag of chips for the 5-8, 112 pound high-schooler!).

So maybe it's evolutionary that men lose faster than women, so that women, who basically seem to be the guardians of health and have always been, will have an easier time taking care of their breadwinners. And really, men are traditionally the hunters of meat, and then women are the ones who get all the vitamins and minerals out of fruits and veggies. Maybe instead of resenting that our husbands lose faster than we do, we should be grateful that they do, since can you imagine if we had to push them as hard we push ourselves to lose weight? lol! wouldn't happen! So, what do you think about my theory?

Weight lifting, food: I am trying a semi-fast today, meaning measuring all food that I eat and drinking water and coffee with skim milk only all day, and then eating only a little each time I get a little hungry, so I stay satisfied all day, not even full. I have to keep on track today and tomorrow, since on the weekends I have so much access to food. Upped my weights at the gym, and I'll get out for a bike ride in the sunshine today!

I can agree with the resentment. my hubby switched from lattes to tea, added more fruit and lost 10 lbs. but it's the long haul that i need to focus on. I am proud of him, he is much more active than before, and is getting our boys into activity. his big motivator was the weight limits for boy scout leaders. i wish that we would "share' more of the weight loss thing, but for him, it's a private matter. i'll get my sharing on fat secret.

When I was a WW lecturer so many years ago, it was common knowledge to myself and all members that the men dropped the weight like shedding clothes. It seemed so easy for them to lose compared to the women, even though it may not have been easy. 8-12 pounds was not uncommon the first week while the women lost 1-6 pounds and even after the first week they consistently lost more. Go figure! Just hang in there and do what you need to do to lose weight, it will happen. :-)

I don't know. My DH trys to lose weight all the time (speraticaly) and never seems to get anywhere. Maybe its because when he goes off his diet, he starts eating all the same old crap that got him fat in the first place, and all of it at 10pm. I don't think you need to worry about how much your husband (or anyone else for that matter) has lost - just focus on yourself, and you'll do fine!! Have a great weekend!

Yeah, my DH at one time blamed me for his cholesterol of 300 - I immediately changed our diet at home so that he would not have that excuse. His cholesterol has only changed because he takes a choleserol medicine - in the end, I couldn't change what he ate for lunch at his cafeteria!

It is true I think that most men lose weight faster than most women. They traditionally have a lower percentage of body fat and more muscle mass than we do ... then there is the whole hormone thing as well. I agree with MomofTwoGirls comment ... you are the one who is important to you!!! Seems like, sadly, your hubby isn't all that supportive of you in general ... so the resentment is probably more than just the weight loss thing. You will find your own groove ... what works for you and THAT is what is IMPORTANT. Seems there is always someone we could compare ourselves too that has it easier or more difficult!! You'll do fine ... just hang in there abbadabba!!! You have TONS of support here!!

Men absolutely resent being told what to do, LOL. It reminds me of My Big Fat Greek Wedding where the mother says, "The man is the head and the wife is the neck, and she can turn his head any way she wants to." Hahaha. The only way to tell a man what to do is to convince him your idea was HIS, hehe.

Yes, Brittiful - it's true and especially about my DH - I have tried to get him to lose weight since forever, but now that I don't care he's losing like crazy.
