Fritzy 22's Journal, 04 Nov 22

Maybe I'm overdoing my walks. Walking so much further than I'm used to. But since I got my step counter and started using it on 10/18 there is only one day that I haven't had at least 10k steps. I spent the early part of the year going to physical therapy and my doctor about upper leg/thigh pain, and calf and hip and lower back pain. Got a corizone shot which really helped. The PT told me to take it easy when walking since I got pain on days when I walked. Now I just go for it. I figure I know I wasn't injured and all the pains are probably from really tight muscles after doing almost nothing in 2020 and 2021. Since I started walking again, starting at aroun 1/2 to 3/4 mile to at least 4 miles I haven't had the pain. Then last night I did feel some pain and this morning the walk was 12,500 steps, I think abou 3 1/2 miles. I've done a couple longer walks last week. But this morning I got really tired halfway through the walk and my legs were aching. I had to find a way home with the least amount of hills (I know all the routes, I'm at the top of a hill) so took a dirt trail for about 1/2 mile with minimal inclines but lots and lots of dogs barking at me and Bobby who started barking back. Finally got home and it was 57 degrees inside so no way was I going to put ice on my legs and hips! Used a heating pad for awhile and heated blankets to keep me warm. I think I was just tired this morning. I'm just walking so can't imagine I'm hurting myself. Oh, I forgot, for the last 2 or 3 days I try jogging - just 100 steps and it's not any faster than my walking. I did it twice today, maybe that hurt something mildly.

Saw lots and lots of deer on the walk including quite a few bucks. But no bucks at my house still althoug there are lots of does and juveniles with mama still. The other morning I saw a fox crossing the street. That's when I got out about 5 minutes after sunrise. I'm waiting now an extra hour, if there are wild animals that's the time of day I'd see them. Would hate to run in to a mountain lion or bear on the dirt trails. The deer and turkeys and squirrels are around all day.

I am eating all my food too early. I'm used to IF and finishing eating around 2pm or so but it's getting so I've eaten lunch (my last meal) by 10am! And all the snacks - the pumpkin seeds and cheese stick, etc.

You've been doing great with all that walking! Sorry you had to find a quick route home and rest your legs and hips. Maybe walk the same route twice and keep it closer to home for awhile. I can't imagine no bucks yet. They need to be there. You take the best care of them! lol Hope you get your food schedule to suit you. It's hard sometimes!:) Feel better!

Thanks Navywife - I think it's the change in the weather, going from needing the a/c to turning on the space heater. My aches and pains are worse in cold weather. I think I'm fine but do need to work on the eating schedule. Have no idea how the time change will impact that.

I dread the time change! Wish it would stay the same! Glad you think you are fine. I would still rest a day or so!:)

Navywife - they talk about keeping daylight savings year around. I hate it, would much rather not have daylight savings time at all. If we weren't setting our clocks back this weekend pretty soon it wouldn't get light until 8:30am or so.

I love DST and would prefer to have light in the evening. I don't want it to be daylight at 4am in the summer.

Please, take care of yourself well.

I have to get tighter with my eating too. I walk some but the losses are from cutting food calories. Hope you feel better soon, and I agree you are probably not hurting yourself by walking.

Thanks DP! Funny what motivates me. For the walking is a silly little gadget that counts steps! Thanks HCB! Thanks Morticia - the days are too long in the summer and too short in the winter. For me it really doesn't matter since I am retired but what I don't like about DST is when it's still light out at 9pm. I go to bed early so being light before 5am is not an issue.

Thanks Anne - I tend to pamper myself. Cold weather is just hard on my aches and pains! Thanks Abba. It usually works best for me if I walk and do good on my diet. If I go out and walk for an hour and a half I'm not going to ruin all that effort with a Butterfinger or something.

Be careful Fritzy! Cold weather could be part of what's making you hurt. It's no fun when it's cold! I have bad hips and when I walk to much they bother me so I use CBD oil. It really helps me. Glad you were able to see some bucks! That would be amazing to me! Take care !💜💜

I find that if I don’t stay well hydrated, my legs get very tired and heavy feeling when I do my walks. On days I drink all my water they don’t. My husband has the same thing happen to him. Up your water intake, that may help. Keep up the walking!

Thanks Diana. I usually warm up once I start walking. Today I did a shorter walker, about 6000 steps and no hills. I was wearing a coat to start but didn't need it by the time I got home. Not that it wasn't still in the 50's outside but I got really warm walking. I have something I rubbed on my thigh and hip yesterday when I was so sore. Forget what it's called. I thought I was buying a cream, something like "deep heat". Don't know even if they make that anymore. Saw many does with fawns this morning. The does stand in front of the fawns staring at Bobby to make sure he isn't going to do anything. No bucks today. Thanks crboyer2 - I haven't been paying as much attention to my water as usual - good advice.
