Fritzy 22's Journal, 28 Jun 22

Just got an emergency alert on my phone for emergency evacuations due to a fire. Had to try to figure out if it is my evacuation zone. It's 100 degrees out. Don't want to have to leave with 3 cats and a dog and not sure where I'd go. But it's not my zone, but I can see the smoke from my window. Hope it doesn't spread this way!

Fingers crossed for you. To be prepared, just in case, please call around to the hotel/motels in your area to see if any of them are providing emergency lodging for folks in your circumstances and whether or not they allow pets. Then follow up with the American Red Cross and/or Humane Society for the same.

Thanks Jeannieselby - I'd probably go to my niece's house, about an hour away. I've found about where it is on the map and it's about 9 miles away but not blowing in my direction. I'm getting the car packed up just in case.

I don't know how you can stand it. I would be constantly fearful and on edge. :( Hope it avoids you and clears soon.

Thanks DP - I am always fearful and on edge during fire season about 7 months a year. That's why I've been taking trips to the Northern California and Oregon coast trying to find a home to buy. Right now the wind is in my favor. But I am filling my car with stuff I've pre packed and am adding things all the time, just in case. 9 miles is too close. I just hope they don't turn the power off because it's about 100 outside. They've turned the power off in areas close to the fire to protect the fire fighters. I've got all my pets in my bedroom with carriers in case I have to take them to the car.

Oh Fritzy, I hope they are being over cautious and the fire doesn't get any closer. 🙏

Be safe. and listen out to see what's going on. And whatever happens don't leave the fury babies behide. Where I use to live by the beach it would flood really bad during storms. during strom we were asked to evaluate because the water was rising. people were leaving their pets like it didn't matter to them. Just leaving them in the yards, on chains, in the houses. To make a long story short, I couldn't find anywhere to go with my doggie Milo who I love sooo much.. nobody wanted to let him in. So, I stayed home and waited the strom out. The police did warn me that I didn't leave noone would be able to help me later on. In fact, a lot of people just waited the strom out. The strom turned out not to be half as bad as they claim it would be. I was stuck in the house for three days but I was not gonna leave my Milo alone to fin for himself. You wouldn't leave ur kids. lol I hope not anyway. I did end up moving to a much higher ground away from the beach

Fires are very scary. Seems we deal with them every summer. The first time I saw a tree explode it scared me to death. Be safe.
