kattay's Journal, 01 Jan 15

I have enjoyed this past year, even with all its ups and downs. Even though I have gained weight over the holidays, I am happy for the progress I have made overall.

Recap of 2014: I lost a total of 31 pounds, even with the weight gain of the holidays. Breaking down to 38 inches gone overall. Not bad for a person with a slower, slowing metabolism. Major areas inches lost: 8.5" chest, 4.5" waist, 8" hips. The average is 34 pounds a year since I started on FS. And yes, it would have much better number wise if I didn't gain during the holidays each year.

This is a lifestyle eating change, a way of eating (WOE), not a short term diet. Current research confirms it is healthier long term than some other plans might be, especially if a person has a lot of weight to lose, like me. As I said, my body has slowed down. The more weight you lose, the more the body works at keeping the weight you have. In 2014 I worked harder than the previous two years at losing weight, maintaining muscle mass, and getting healthier. Over 80% of my diet has been, and is, whole foods with better cooking methods. I ate baked, roasted, sauteed, microwaved foods instead of deep fat frying foods. I cooked almost 90% of my foods at home, instead of making restaurants richer. I used to eat most all of my meals out after I became an empty nester until I made my New Years resolution in 2011. That is when I got on FS to track everything.

Support is everything. I feel much better since being on FS and being a part of the FS community. Special thanks to all my buddies. Thanks to anyone who has supported my weigh ins and comments. Before I felt all alone in a world where everyone else could enjoy food and not gain. Of course, I still have a lot more to lose.

Here is to 2015!! May we make our goals and enjoy life! Have fun, be happy and healthy!! Hold family close. Live, laugh and learn to keep young at heart. Throw in exercise for health. Stress less. Those are my goals. If I lose weight in the process, I will be an even happier camper.

Isnt it grand how we can transform everything about ourself & our life when we choose to educate ourself & make the right decisions? It takes a bit longer but its so worth every effort. This way we teach ourselves & in doing so the Transformation can last a lifetime! Congrats on your year in review Kattay & much success in the year ahead!

I caught myself saying 'time for a diet' the other night and remembered the WOE isn't temporary so I'll just say my mindless eating was temporary; back to the WOE that suits me well. Happy new year.

It has been a great year for both of us Draglist. Your posts are inspiring. We have lost weight, gained muscle (hopefully), learned a lot, and kept on truckin'! We need to make 2015 awesome!

Thank you myawethinTICself! We can change what wasn't working for us. One size does not fit all when it comes to WOE, exercising, or in general...living.

You are so right FullaBella, WOE isn't temporary. I think it is an automatic response "time for a diet" because we have heard it for so long. Having a WOE mindset embraces our healthy lifestyle while giving us freedom to eat the foods we would normally don't eat, but love, on a limited basis. Eat today, cut back tomorrow! Happy New Year!
