Fritzy 22's Journal, 10 Mar 22

I'm going to try at least a week of eating protein shakes and bars I bought from the dietdirect.website. I've had these products before and they are okay. I just need to lose a few pounds so I get motivated again. The shakes have 15 grams of protein, but I mix them with fat free milk instead of water to bring the protein to about 21 grams. I protein bars are either 10 or 15 grams of protein. You are supposed to have some "real" food as well so I had some carrots and an apple today as well as a little bit of chicken my sister gave me and a couple of meatballs I cooked a couple days ago. Lots of protein and under 1000 calories today if I actually stick to what I've posted in my food journal.

I finished physical therapy last week for my sciatic nerve and back pain. I'm feeling a little better but still have some trouble with my right leg. But at least I can put a shoe on my right foot with some effort. My right leg is just weak so I need to keep on doing the stretches I was doing during my appointments. I hated having to wear a mask for the hour I was there. I'm used to only needing to wear a mask for a few minutes when grocery shopping. I didn't realize how much I don't like wearing them -all the hot air staying in my face. I don't know how kids can wear them all day in school.

I'm currently getting over sciatica, too, that mostly pains my right thigh. Got it from sitting at the computer all day. Getting out and walking helps a lot, and I stretch all the time: right in bed before I get up, when I break from the computer, and before I crawl into bed at night. Sitting Indian-style at my desk or on the couch works as a passive stretch, too. Good luck with your protein shake week.

Be careful not to overdo on the processed protein. I too did this as I work out alit and need to up my protein level. Problem is I don't really like meat that much..I started drinking premade protein shakes, eating protein bars and using protein powders. I ended up becoming lactose intolerant. I never had a problem before. It was so bad that I went to Dr. He basically said I overdosed on processed whey. I had to stop all dairy and whey products for 3 months. Then I introduced dairy slowly. I am still not able to tolerate milk, most cheeses, ice cream, and yogurt. 💜💜💜💜💜💜

Thanks Bananas! I don't stretch as much as I should. I started walking a couple weeks ago and noticed the pain got pretty bad. I stopped the walking for a 2 or 3 days and the pain wasn't as bad. But I know walking is good for me so I'm back to it. I notice the leg pain when I put on shoes or socks and when getting in to the car because the right leg goes in first. Diana - My doctor has told me not to use protein shakes because he wants me avoiding processed foods as much as possible. I don't eat meat much - maybe a couple times a week so I am always struggling to get enough protein. I get most of my daily protein from fat free milk. I'll add in about 15 raw almonds and string cheese, but still need another 20 or so grams a day. I don't like the shakes and bars enough to have them for very long.

I hope your regime will give you the push you need. I like little regimes also. They get me out of my old routine

As I’ve gone through my weight loss journey and have researched so many different things along the way, several people have mentioned that going too low calorie intake makes your body actually not lose fat weight cuz it’s desperate and starving so it holds on to your stored fat. I’m still trying to lose weight so I am in a calorie deficit, but I’m trying not to go below 1450. Most days range from 1500 - 1550. I keep my protein high. I never heard that before about the Eating a little more to lose weight. Plus, strength training and cardio a few times per week helps me.

Sorry you are having trouble with your back causing you sciatic nerve pain. I suffer from that too and have trouble standing then walking when I first get up from sitting. Then from time to time it gets worse and hurts a lot to walk. Every step is scary not knowing if one's weak leg will support us. I am praying for you.
