kattay's Journal, 14 Oct 14

I am glad my little arrow is pointing down. I tried some new ratios this week concentrating on low carb. Blew it one day when the tykes were with me because I fixed us an whole wheat spaghetti dinner. At least that is one dinner I know they like. Just one cup of spaghetti I ate without the sauce is so high carb. I hadn't eaten spaghetti for months. I promptly froze all the leftover spaghetti and sauce so that wouldn't be my next meal. I can heat it up for them when they visit next time. The days after that tried to make up for the spaghetti carbs. Surprising thing, I just couldn't force myself to eat more to get my calories up which would mess with my ratios. Turned out to be a lower calorie week than I had initially planned. Not so good when you figure in the slowing metabolism factor. Did more walking and more reps on the weights this week.

Looking at my numbers, I have to laugh. Sometimes it is so easy to get caught up with the whole losing thing. When I weighed around 200 to 210 I was playing on a women's softball team with my teenage daughters. I was the oldest player but I played every game. I ran the bases and had a blast! I am not saying I was the best player out there but I had heart! I went to dances, swimming, went to my kid's ball games, etc. I didn't dwell on my weight because I was having too much fun. Not that I was oblivious to the weight or not trying to lose, I just didn't let it run my life. I went through my share of Slimfast shakes and a short time with phen phen. Sad I couldn't fit into smaller sizes, etc.

I only slowed down after the big C because my body had other plans. That was when I went into the mode that I better enjoy life, and food, while I can because life is too short. One day my inner light bulb went off. I am not dead yet, I have really put on the weight and that weight is what is going to kill me! I am working at getting my mojo back. Work in progress!

I don't know about the rest of my FS friends but Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are my times of the year. Plus we have a lot of birthdays crammed all around those holidays. That is when I really can put on the weight. Should be interesting this year.

Now let's go have some fun!

I love the food holidays! Add to that the the body's caveman responds to gain weight for the winter and they are rough. I just keep telling myself it's not about the food it's about friends and family

You are so right Instantcrazy. It is about family and friends. I am really wanting to fix my crockpots full of chili, chunky veggie beef soup, etc. My inner cavewoman wants to feed everyone around me! I just can't imagine the holidays without the pies, cakes, and cookies. Just need to contain myself!

I try to tell myself they are back to back opportunities to practice and experience my new way of eating and living. The first year I was only 90 days into my new WOE so the ambition was there; the second I was grieving Cutty and had some ups and downs. This year & time I am glad I resumed recording calories as it's going to help me keep a mild leash on the 'nibbling' and I'm going to visit the recipes for calorie trimming but still delicious dishes.

You simply can't argue with success! Kattay you're doing fabulous on your weightloss and rejoining the sports activities. I'm sure there's a lot of folks on here using you as inspiration, myself included. Keep it up.

I am with you there FullaBella. I am convinced I have more will power now. I am even scheming now. How I am going to do trade offs in my fav recipes I don't want to say no to, and I won't hear "EEEEww, I'm not going to eat that!" Read an article on calorie count of Halloween fun bars sizes. Now if I can have a little bit and not over indulge :) Of course, I could just not eat any...mmm Good Luck with That.

Lol yeah don't deprive yourself. I have always found that leads to a binge. I love the mini size Halloween candy. Just a bite to get rid of the craving. Last year I would have been very annoyed with just a bite. This year I'm satisfied. Chili and veggie beef soup are very healthy. Make them! Freeze the rest just like you did the spaghetti.

Thank you LittleRedFlatBack! Now, I think, for most of the sports, I will just cheer everybody else on. Now if they want to race laps in the pool they would have some competition! I can still play a mean game of horse or around the world in basketball lol. Better at computer games now when playing against the tykes.

I can't imagine I would deprive myself Instantcrazy :) Three Musketeers came out on top in the article as far as quantity vs calories so they are on my hit list. In all cases, including the soups, low carb might not be on the menu! Okay, at least I'm trying to plan for the calories, fat and carbs!

I've raided a few Halloween chocolate bars that are showing up in baskets on desks at work. One is plenty.

No, just not used to eating the sweet stuff anymore so one is about all I can eat before they get too sweet. I said a few but that was like one a day for several days last week.

Maybe my palate will be like that too. I haven't had anything really sweet since my DD birthday in July which was slice of chocolate cake you could almost read newspaper through. I did stop at the one piece. Should be interesting.

I learned the hard way last spring, had a long john at work. Felt awful the rest of the day, I couldn't even eat lunch my stomach was so upset. Now I pay attention to things tasting too sweet. I did have a small piece of birthday cake last week, it sounded good. Didn't finish it.

Wonderful journal! Holidays can be high calorie or high carb. If my family is going to have a chocolate cake with thick frosting, I make myself a sugar free cake with no frosting or a sugar free brownie, and nobody even notices that I am eating something different. Or you could have a small portion. You will succeed! You are an inspiration, Kattay!

Thank you wholefoodnut and Deb for your comments. I do the small portions. Works for me. All of you are an inspiration for me. We all could do with a pat on the back when we are trying so hard to make the right decisions for our bodies.

Sweet dreamcatcher10. I am here. Loved the ballgame this morning with my GS. Had a ball :). Grocery shopping, etc. Beautiful day in the neighborhood! Sunny, crisp, with a bit of refreshing wind. Love the fall! Okay, I love all the seasons! :)

Guesing the big C was cancer? Had a scare with that too, and love what you say about enjoying life as its too short. Pray that what is left of life does NOT consist of food and a closet full of clothes that don't fit. Are you with me on that sister?
