melissatwa's Journal, 11 Aug 21

In a week and a half, as long as all the last minute covid tests work out and the flight isn't canceled, I should be on my way to Germany with my oldest son and my husband. This has been a long awaited trip to visit friends that was planned long ago for last summer, but for obvious reasons was delayed. I am both excited and concerned about how I will manage my intake. There will be a lot of CI and CO, but I don't know that they will balance out perfectly. It will be a real test of my ability to manage my weight while away from all scales... both kitchen and bathroom. We will be gone for 4 weeks.

A few of you know our struggle to renew our son's passport that expired during covid. Very long story short, we were finally able to get a passport appointment for a few days before we depart. We expect they will be able to issue it in a few hours. We aren't too worried about that now, but it was so incredibly stressful trying to get that appointment. Every person in the country with this problems is routed through a single phone number and the appointments offered are extremely few, and you can only request an appointment two weeks before departure. Being on hold for hours is the reality for most and there is only one office in the state where you can go. It was such a relief! It was really hard to get excited about our trip until that was sorted, and it still is not feeling real. We have had to alter our plans significantly from our hoped for adventure and expect to be laying pretty low and just enjoying our friends and some day trips. There will be lots of walking adventures. I am just praying my knee holds up well.

I am feeling really blessed yet overwhelmed by all that needs to happen before departure. In the next week and a half I have the longest hours of work I have ever had. I am not likely to get much time at the gym, but I CAN control my calories! Right?? Of course, right! :) God help me!

Sadly cherry season is coming to an end. How happy it made me to nibble my way through this bowl of goodness!

Happy Tuesday, dear friends.

Welcome to the immigrant's life. Dealing with this administration is not easier in regular times, even if lives depend on it. Where to in Germany? Not sure why you worry, German food and beverages are famous for being very light and balanced 😋 Enjoy your trip, keep the stress out of your luggage, I'm sure enough of it will still be here when you come back.

I hope you get to enjoy a wonderful trip. Being on hold is the worst. In my experience, it is hard to overconsume when walking a lot and being highly active. At the very least, it balances out, and many times, it might even result in a small loss. Being away from both scales might be a way to try a slightly different approach that could also be good for weight loss/maintenance.

Thank you, Eral66. If something will go badly, a government agency can often make it more painful and so impersonal. We honestly no know trials like for many others. I feel horribly for the immigration process for so many. We have traveled three times to Germany before and had a wonderful time staying with our friends, we expect it to be so nice... We just want to get there! And! Nope not light food from our hosts! All the cream! I dream of the lovely stuff they cook! And new wine! We will be thee just at the right time! We will be not far from Heidelberg.

Oh, Petra! I am so grateful we can go. I feel so blessed but also so anxious because of all the things left to go wrong. I'm a worrier and I'm married to one. Goodness! 😭 We will have access to a car to use for some adventures and we have so many friends who have come to stay with us even more Than one time each.. Many have been with us for months at a time, so we really have a community to join for our month there. I will post pictures I'm sure. So many beautiful things to see. So much wonderful food! I'll try to stay away from snacks and anything I don't LOVE! 😁

LaughingChevre, I think you are rigbt that it could be good for me to approach food a little differently for the trip. I have never gained weight when traveling before, but I was always more heavy than I am now. As you can probably tell, we aren't likely to get Portugal as we had hoped. Even vaccinated, America's must have covid tests to go so many places. Our lack of a central databases for records makes for proving "immunity" less than possible. Our cheesy little CDC card is all we've got. Anyway, we are going to enjoy ourselves and maybe another year we can make it! 😁

Thank you, Javadali, Anna Bear, and John! 😁 We have had the tickets since November. They were such shockingly good deals that we bought just hoping it would work out. All three of us are going for just over the cost of a single ticket that was a great deal about 8 years ago.

I am so happy and excited for you! This trip will be good for you I think! Germany is a beautiful place and I can't wait to see pictures! As for diet, you will likely gain as the cuisine there is so rich and heavy.( as you know) I'm sure you will be walking alot so that's a plus. Just remember, this is an adventure and part of that is to enjoy all aspects of the experience. You can recover at home. Enjoy my friend! As for cherry season, I love them! I eat so many it causes me issues...if you know what I mean..but I dont care, I'll recover after I stop eating them ..(tmi) 💜💜🍒🍒🍒💜💜💜💜

Amazon has an excellent travel scale if you decide you want to take one with you. It has a protective sleeve and is about the size of a small tablet. I like to weigh daily just for my own peace of mind but if you want to take the break, I totally get that too. I hope you have a wonderful time on your trip 💗😊

Erquiaga, so crazy that two years ago I was telling you how sad I was that I had just reached my goal weight but my daughter and husband were in Europe without me. She paid for her dad to go and and I didn't go because we saved so I could go with the boy and hubby the next year. I was so afraid I would struggle and gain weight while they were gone. I did OK. Now it is finally hopefully happening and it is my time! 😁
