melissatwa's Journal, 19 Oct 20

Last week I took these photos on a lovely, brisk, ten mile walk along the Sammamish River. The next day I ran a quick three miles, lifted my heaviest, and then went for a 4 mile walk on many steep hills. After recently nursing a sore knee, it was a bit too much. From the research I have done, I have an iliotibial band, stress injury. I am pretty discouraged, since it looks like I won't be running or lifting with anything that puts much pressure on my knees for a while. If any of you have any experience with an IT band trouble and can give some advice, I would gladly hear from you! It could be worse I know. I'll need to cut my calories back and take it easy for a while. I am hoping I can get back to walking when the pain eases. It doesn't actually hurt that much. It just makes me annoyed that I can't run! :( I hope everyone has a beautiful week coming up!

Very pretty walk you had there. Sorry to hear about the knee. All I can say is time but I do not know that much about it. Maybe ake sure you have good shoes when you can start again, limit your workouts and do knee stretches. My yoga teacher used to be obsessed with those

What a beautiful place to walk. I'm sorry to hear you'll have to limit your activity though. Hopefully not for too long.

Thanks, liv, I think I do need to swap out my shoes for sure. It is crazy how quickly the miles add up. Even when they look fine, I know the shoes have seen better days. I'm starting in on stretches I've found, and I'm resting and iceing. I just hope, hope to run again. 😢 When it flared up a couple weeks ago, I took some days off, but I was able to get back to race walking pretty quickly without pain. Apparently, this is pretty common, but that doesn't make it nice. I think this makes some sense of a grinding noise ive been hearing from my knee when I do stairs. I've got to limber up!! 😁

LaughingChevre, thank you! It is nothing like your stunningly beautiful location, but I am thankful to live in Western Washington with all the water and trees! ❤️

Gorgeous!! I always think "if I just had scenery like that, I'd hike for miles"... And I wouldn't...but I still like to think it. 😄

Oh dear. 😞The saying when it rains, it pours must hit home to you. I wish I had some magical words to lift you above the clouds hanging around you lately. I do not. However, I know the One who can do ALL things that are impossible to us. May the God who made the sun, moon and stars lift you and your precious family out and above all these recent life struggles. Don’t give up the fight Melissa. Here for you. ❤️🙏

I love the Pacific Northwest, Melissa. I only got to visit a couple of weeks some years ago but it was beautiful.

IT Band runs on the outside of the leg right up to the hip. I used a foam roller and layed on my side with gentle pressing movements - this will move the gfascia under the skin which also helps release the muscular pain

Fascia - not gfascia - that was a typo

Thank you, kattay! I am working on counting my blessings! Princess, if you had these particular places to walk, you would for sure be out walking miles on miles. I'd drag you out of the gym and you WOULD like it! 😁

Thank you so much, wifey. Just taking one day at a time and focusing on the good things. We have much for which we can be grateful when we look! ❤️

LaughingChevre, it is lovely! If you ever make it back this way, you'll have to say hi! 😁 We can do a FS hang out with our crazy NW gang. It happens from time to time! 😁 Thank you, tina.and.tito!

Thanks for the tips and suggestions, Katsolo and HCB. This is all new for me. I'm trying to learn quickly. I wish I didn't have to, but realizing others have recovered and learned to deal wirh this is helpful! ❤️

More beautiful photos, melissatwa ! I’m glad you have such a beautiful location to walk. Sorry you’re dealing with physical injury on top of everything else. The only advice I can offer is don’t do anything to make it worse, and “lost” time recovering isn’t truly lost, not when compared to pushing through the pain and making things worse. Get well soon!! 🙏

Aww, sunnybutterfly, you are so sweet! ❤️Thank you for your well wishes, all of you! Well, except for Chris who wants me to die via motorcycle accident and steal my good knees. 😢
