Today I am thinking about non-scale victories. As we try to balance our expectations with reality and not focus so much on a number, sometimes it is a boost to think about different changes resulting from our fat loss and fitness gained. Some of them are so subtle they are easy to miss! Here are some of the ones that are coming to mind at the moment. It would be wonderfully fun if anyone and everyone could add to the list with their own NSVs!
I can wear tall socks! I can do so without folding them down because they are hurting my very fat calves!
I needed to learn to sleep differently, because I was waking up with my knees hurting. The “padding’ is diminished between them!
I can “steal” the clothing from my 20 something daughters!
I used to weigh around 30 pounds more than my husband, now I weigh almost twenty pounds less! Ok, that is kind of a scale thing.
Working in my yard and garden is not something I dread but that fills me with enjoyment. I can bend and lift and dig and squat and push and rake and then do it again.
I went from busting out of size 16 to wearing some size 6.
I can run!
A 10 mile walk is not daunting in the least!
I wear sleeveless shirts, mini skirts, and shorts. I went for so many years wearing long skirts to hide my fat legs.
I have collarbones and cheekbones!
So, when we get discouraged because the scale isn’t exactly what we would want, looking for the NSVs can lift the spirits! And please, don't see this as bragging... not for you and not for me. We are on a journey to better health or we would not be on this site. I am trying to be encouraged. We have come a long way!
