Kenna Morton's Journal, 16 Jul 20

A close friend of mine had a small skin cancer removed from her leg at Christmas time. Since then it has metastasized to her brain — twice. She had brain surgery twice in the last 30days. She has some deficits that she is getting physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to hopefully regain some of what has been lost. She is aggressively walking, using hand weights and using the pool at my condo . She wears me out! Today we are going to picnic at a local park that has trees and beautiful lakes. The hard part of cooking without using boxed mixes and stuff is that you have to taste everything as you go along. I have just about officially taste tested my days calories and it’s not even lunchtime. Oh well. One day in a lifetime.

I had a client die as his skin cancer spread to his organs one by one, lastly his lungs and took his life with the most horrific suffering I ever saw. It caused me to be educated on the dangers of the suns ill effects and I cover now with every bit of skin I have. I’m coated in sunscreen and you wouldn’t be able to convince me to sunbathe with and $$$$ The only side effect I have is low vitamin D. Big deal. I wish the very best for your friend. As you know, skin cancer is ugly, no tan is worth it ever!!!!!!! I’m so strong in this I could write a book. Yet some of my family bake in it and friends too. People don’t care about warnings. Very tragic. 😞

Unfortunately growing up in SoCal means beach, surfing etc. so far I’m good but many are dealing with remanents of our youthful activities.

So tragic. People can still enjoy it but cover up with UV protective wear or a good sunscreen.

Vitamin D is essential for the the utilization oF calcium. It only takes about 15 minutes a day Of sun exposure to satisfy the vitamin D RDI. and It doesn’t have to be in the heat of the day or when the sun is at its peak. And, don’t forget about vitamin D from foods such as eggs and oily fish. Vitamin D supplements are the least efficient method of satisfying. our vitamin D requirements. Vitamin D absorption occurs in that part of the intestine that is just downstream from the stomach so several medical conditions that affects the GI track block absorption of oral vit. D. In order to absorb D you have to also get sufficient vitamin K and magnesium. Magnesium is what converts vitamin D into its usable form so that it can help our bodies absorb calcium. In the USA vitamin D deficiency is common because Of our Low exposure to sunlight and our heavy use of sun screen when we do go out. So get outside for 15 minutes In the earlIer part of the day and get a little Vit. D and have some fun at the same time.

Your friend is amazing!!! Good advice on the D and Magnesium. I actually take supplements of both all year. Magnesium as a migraine preventive and D to go with it. I have a desk job so some days hard to get outside. A bit easier with working from home currently.
