FullaBella's Journal, 29 Apr 13

So .. ahem.. note new image photo.. more flowers today.

This photo does not do it justice. It is, not counting the mylar balloons, over four feet tall and three feet wide. In fact, that empty Fiji water bottle beside it is a liter bottle. I'm proud the water bottle is empty; I've been slacking on that lately. There are 24 red roses and one yellow rose (among the lillies and other stuff). I think I'll use the 3 gallon vase as a wine glass when all of this is over, LOL.

This arrangement is for my upcoming birthday, Mother's day, and recognition of the day we were married but not using the "A" word at all, and if you are my friend you won't either. Not that anything is wrong 'today' - you'll understand if you read the following.

We were robbed on our wedding day. Not at gunpoint mind you; just someone snatched 'the bag' that had the book, goblets, etc., more also the cards with cash in them and we'd been hoping to use that to pay for the honeymoon so that we wouldn't begin our marriage in debt. Yes, I'm the bride in the wedding night photos with red puffy eyes from crying. We got the 'stuff' back but not the cash. Hello AMEX...

On our first anniversary we went camping (little did he know then I consider 'roughing it' when the hotel doesn't have room service). However - I did not ruin his 'camping', the weather did. Something akin to a hurricane settled in resulting in a last minute 'motel'. We came home to find his brother had consumed over $500 in groceries and lied to the rest of the family that we left him & two 'children' at the house with no food. Happy you know what, huh? Big fight with his family. Sigh.

He had seven brothers and sisters; one of the things that attacted me to him was his big family but I soon found out it was more Manson and less Walton than I'd hoped. I realized you never fight with just one sibling; it's a gang thing. But back to the recognition of the day we wed.

On the second year of our marriage he wanted to make up for the wedding day and first so he stayed home from work to 'reseed the front lawn.' So he said.

But what he was really doing (while I sat at work and thought 'Nice, he's home playing in the yard and he's probably going to track up that freshly waxed foyer with his muddy shoes...' ) was trying to surprise me.

He had walked to the store (we only had one running car) and prepared a full fancy schmancy dinner of prime rib, made those little shrimp cocktails in fancy champagne glasses, set the formal dining table like we were Mr & Mrs SnootyPants and had a cake and champagne and a sapphire diamond ring waiting on me when I got home.

What's so bad about that?

Oh, nothing except just as we raised our goblets to toast the phone rang; it was his brother (a different one) telling us his father was being rushed to the hospital with a heart attack. I spent the evening alone cleaning up the kitchen wondering where all those pots & pans came from and when he came home at 2am we had cake and toasted with milk.

Third: storm damaged the roof
Fourth: I was stuck out of town for work
Fifth: I was in a head-on car collision
Sixth: Lightening struck (another house by then) taking out $$$k in electronics

And .. on the Seventh.. despite taking every precaution to stay home, no phone, no people, no risks...he walked out on me saying he wanted a divorce.

Obviously, he did not in fact divorce me. But we agreed after that day we wouldn't try to celebrate this day so for years now we just wake up on 4/29 and nod. The closest we get is to say 'Happy You know What...'

So here we are .. still married .. and he'd laugh whenever I was traveling on this day. "Seriously, you're going to get on an airplaine? Do those other passengers know this day is cursed?"
I'd board the flight and start looking for Nuns.

And now the countdown begins. Whatever happens we have to get through until midnight and avoid a tragedy. I'm supposed to go to the bank and pharmacy this evening and don't trust the vehicle or other drivers. I think I'll send someone.

In case you're wondering 'well, what'd you get him?' as he wants for nothing and needs nothing...although it does soothe my soul, I do the backyard for him. He can see it when he walks to the bathroom and on days he feels like walking outside. Yesterday I planted a bed of beautiful lillies beneath his hummingbird feeders.

Thank you for reading.

Wow, its got to make you wonder if thats all coincidence? or is the universe trying to tell you something? I'd build a bunker and crawl into in and not come out until the day was over.

sometimes the 'awful' moments help us become very grateful for all the good ones. My honeymoon was a ridiculous series of events, after staying the night in a hotel we got home ready to do some travel around Victoria (no hotel bookings just stop when we want). However, unbeknownest to me, Eric received a big bill for something or rather and decided to pay it instead. So the first week we stayed home (ended up in bed most of the time anyway lol)

*whispers* Did you get through The Day? Happy Birthday, BTW, cuz I clearly missed that, being the observant soul that I am.

We made it - no calamaties or casualties and I even traveled by vehicle. I was on my way to the bank when some silly driver in an SUV swerved in front of me but I avoided it then thought "OMG... I'M IN A CAR ON MY 'A' DAY??? WHAT WAS I THINKING???' But made it there, pharmacy and grocery store and back home without having to phone State Farm. I'm not sure we will EVER utter the actual phrase outloud with confidence ~ hence the 'nods' for nearly two decades. Of all of our differences we share the philosophy 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. My birthday isn't until next week. That's the result of all of these things coming within the same two weeks; one huge catch all gift but that's okay with me. My store has the most intoxicating smell of flowers ~ fabulous. Thanks again everyone.
