Fritzy 22's Journal, 18 Dec 19

Just made an appointment to see a surgeon about my gallstones. The appointment is on Monday, a long time for me to be anxious. But I feel like they don't consider it an emergency that it can wait for 5 days. Trying to eat light with minimal fat. Don't know why, but I bought pretzels today (no fat). I'm so afraid of that pain coming back, but it's difficult to figure out what to eat.

Hugs! I had gallstones for years and had no idea! Keep it bland and light until Monday. Don’t be like adultosaur and eat pizza then end up in the ER when a stone gets stuck! Keep us posted! 🦖💓

Sorry to hear that you’re going through such a difficult situation. I think it’s strange too that they are waiting that long. Feel better soon.

Juliejbird, Jcmama, Adulosaur, Shirfleur, DietTried - thanks for the support. Julie I deal with anxiety a lot and am always trying to calm myself down. Going on long walks help.Adultosaur - do you still have your gallbladder? Funny, I love pizza but haven't had any for at least 6 months. Yesterday I had a dish of peas and a glass of apple juice for lunch and a dry 1/4 bagel for breakfast. I had read that apple juice MIGHT be good for gallstones. DietITriedIt - there are only 3 general surgeons serving the hospital I go to. I guess the surgeons probably do their surgeries in the mornings and maybe don't have much time for consultations. Glad I don't have to wait any longer. The first time I had gallstones I wasn't even referred to a surgeon, just told to follow a low fat diet. Jcmama - we both have lots of issues right now just in time for the holidays! Hope you are feeling better. Shirfleur - I am always so happy to see your supportive posts. Thank you.

my husband ended up in the hospital icu for over 5 months due to complication with his gallbladder which caused a flair up of pancreatitis thoughts i was going to lose him there for awhile at only 30, anyway i digress when he was there the only thing he was allowed to eat was clear things such as broths and jellos water or Popsicle apple juice so you might check into a few of these options i know really limiting but it sounds like you will get some better idea on monday from your doctors so not a long time to eat these.

Michellebeck - it's funny but last night I was trying to think of what I could eat if I couldn't have solid food for awhile. And I thought of jello! I'll buy some today. I also thought of tomato soup. I hadn't read about clear liquids. Yes, I need to hear from the doctor rather than relying on the internet although I only go to a couple sites I trust, like the Mayo Clinic for information. Does your husband still have his gallbladder?

Fritz, I hope you don't have another attack between now and Monday. Hugs and prayers going out to you.

Hi Fritzy, nope no more gallbladder here. I had to have a stone removed from my duct then the whole gallbladder removed bc it was filled it stones. Good luck and stay calm till Monday!

Thanks Tatauu - I'm trying to eat really light and very low fat until I hear what the surgeon has to say. I know I'm more likely to have an attack if I eat until I'm full. Adultosaur- thanks for the comments and support. It's good to hear from people who have had gallbladder issues.

Sometimes gallstones get caught in the ducts and cause severe pain! this has happened to my daughter and myself. If it is causing you pain, it's a simple surgery. Get it out! Hope you feel better!

no he ended up finally being able to get it out at the end of the 5 months and thankfully has had no issues since.
