Fritzy 22's Journal, 04 Sep 19

I'm taking off for the coast in Northern California in a few days for 5 nights. I'm going to the grocery store today to get a few items to take for the little refrigerator in the motel room. Not sure how I'll eat while I'm gone, but know I won't stick to my plan. I always eat the free continental breakfast. That's usually all I eat until around 3-4 when I have some kind of meal. I spend most of the day walking along the beach and the bluff trails - I can walk for miles in both directions. My sister and her dog may come as well which will mean a couple of meals at least at a restaurant. The motel doesn't allow you to leave the dog in the room, but I know of 2 or 3 places to eat that allow dogs. One of them, at the harbor has a big enclosed covered patio area. If I get a table by the window I usually can see sea otters playing in the water. This place brought me a menu for the dog and Bobby got a prime rib bone that had quite a bit of meat on it. Bobby had never seen anything like that, sure doesn't get to eat like that at my house! It kept him busy while my friends and I could enjoy our meal in peace.

Sounds like it will be really lowly. Bobby is probably looking forward to is as well. So nice that there are places that allow dogs.

Liv - the motel even has a dog park attached! So lots of places cater to travelers with dogs. Bobby loves going. About a week before the trip I started telling him "we're going to go to the beach!" And he just turns his head like he's trying to understand, but I think after a dozen visits he gets it! Lots of walks and lots of ground squirrels and sea gulls for him to get excited about.

Oh have a wonderful time! That sounds lovely! I've never ever been to a California beach, but my grandma lived on the coast in Oregon. We visited about once a year, and it was such a highlight. We could see the water from the top windows in her house. She was the one who taught me to love walking... miles and miles and miles. I adore walking "her beach" now when I ever get the chance. But, the years go by... We had to really "move it" when we were little to keep up with grandma!!! Enjoy your trip!!

Melissa - Northern California beaches are different than the ones to the south. Where I am going, it will be about 65-67 all week long which is the summer average highs. Winters are in the 50's. Pretty mild weather year long and I love going there. This will be my 4th trip this year and I hope to go again in November and/or December.

Enjoy your trip, Fritzy! It sounds wonderful for all concerned, especially Bobby! A friend lived south of San Francisco, in Half Moon Bay for a short time -- cool breezes, gorgeous coastline. We had dinner at a restaurant right on the beach in a little town down the coast. Lovely!
