Fatboy199's Journal, 20 Jul 19

Its been about 2 weeks since I re-dedicated myself to my overall health and continued weight loss. I love the simplicity of fatsecret and the ability to monitor my food and activity. I have had a good 2 weeks and my weight has steadily dropped.

Of course, fatsecret could be better but you could say that about many things. I don't understand Keto, and even though it seems to work for many people, I believe that balance and moderation is the key. Especially as we start aging.
I see a lot of drama on this sight lately. People behaving poorly and sharing inappropiate things that do not belong here. Which in turn, prompts people to respond with a myriad of comments and opinions.
I am sure that this type of drama isn't very productive and ruins the communal spirit of the purpose of this site.
What I love to see are the many folks who like myself, are struggling with weight issues, sharing and supporting each other to assist to better ourselves and improve our health.
Obesity is no joke! Trust me...the loneliness of being overweight can be all-encompassing.
Yesterday, one of our fatsecret's more successful young ladies was attacked for posting a picture of herself at the gym. It prompted a lot of ugliness by a very immature person.
Her contributions are simple, straightforward and totally doable. She's proven it! Watch what you eat, log what you eat, exercise and stay consistent. REPEAT! It's all in the process.

Unfortunately, we have people sharing their personal lives, their hangups, their demons and more.
We have people who are crying for attention, and many folks who I believe are earnestly trying to be helpful giving advise in return. Which only exasperates the situation when the original poster is offended by the comments. The drama is so unnecessary and counterproductive.
If you see a post that rankles you or your sensibilities...just move along. Focus! Focus on why you came here and what your purpose for being here is.
Me? I am a mess physically. I am fat and have been fat most of my life, but seeing folks like myself come together to share their struggles, share their process and hopefully their success is nothing short of awesome!
Remember why you came here and started your journey.
Enjoy your journey.
Repeat!

I am so with you. I come here to help me lose weight not read all the drama but it seems they are the featured posts of the day way too many times. I didn't have a lot to lose but FS has helped me as it is the first time I have lost weigh when I wanted to. Fatboy we think alike. Too old for all this nonsense.

I just try to remember that people are posting in THEIR journal and allow others to view and make comments. Sometimes I see things I don't like, but try to only post supportive comments, otherwise just past the post. I don't do Keto, don't really understand the appeal (except for those who want to eat bacon, cheese, etc) and have been told by my doctor that for me, it's better to have a low fat diet except it's okay to have healthy fats like nuts and avocado. But he is looking at my family history and my own health issues. While I don't follow Keto, I support those that do and find it works for them.

Well said. I am also not good at the drama and tend to skip through much of it and have since I joined in 2012. I will say that everything in your life affects your health and this weight loss journey. I know personally I have had a struggle to get to where I am emotionally and in better health. I had to learn to feel good about myself to lose weight and keep it off. The support of many here has been my lifesaver.

In general, I agree with you, but remember, some. people have gained weight because of all the emotional issues in their lives. And for some of those people, this is the only place they feel safe expressing their feelings. If people can find healing through that release, then I'm all for it. May you all find peace and joy in your lives. And may you have a successful journey.

It's like a car wreck. You have to look.. Health & nutrition should be the main focus here. It really needs to be monitored better, or have the spam thing actually remove posts when multiple people report it. All the crap from Instagram and memes don't belong here.

Glad to see you active. Please stay here with us. You can do this. You have a wonderful attitude and I think you are going to make it. Don’t let the troll get to you. I was going to report him and have him blocked but, in truth, I forgot how to do it. Hehe. That’s the only issue I have with some of the selfies people post.—there are trolls and stalkers out there.

Well Fatboy199, you may be large, but you are eloquent and kind. Think how fab you will be when you reach your weight goal. Some woman will be lucky.

Excellent post Keyten. I agree, a name change needs to be considered. Will not be a fat boy in the future. I have faith.

Shirfleur, you expressed what I was thinking and stumbling hunting for words. I know I've said things on here either in my journals or in a challenge that were demons that were controlling my life that I was attempting to face and having trouble. Thanks to my support here I can admit to people that I am a survivor of domestic violence--I used to be a victim. I am no longer as I can face it and have learned to go past it and not let it control my life so now a survivor. I often post good things about my life that are not seemingly health related but they are for emotional reasons or troubling things that throw kinks in my life. In order to not return to destructive behaviors such as overeating you have to feel good about yourself.

Wholefoodnut—many do not have a safe place to vent in their “real” worlds. I see nothing wrong with doing a little venting here on FS. Everyone needs a little closet to scream in. And, a platform to talk to ourselves in our journals. I think you do great— I think most people here do great especially considering what some are dealing with. Post as you wish— its your very own journal.

Have you heard of John Locke? Are we pursuing happiness or land? Are you ready to get after it?

Well written Fatboy199. Enjoyed reading this.

Unfortunately it’s an ‘anonymous’ world so people think they can say anything. Your writing was spot on. This is our world now so you’ll find this same action on any site. I’m new here but this site seems to be one of the less judgmental.

Thank you Kenna! 💕❤ I don't really like drama. But this is the only place I can talk about my life, and yes my personal problems have everything to do with my weight loss. The community has really helped me to deal with my problems. I mean if you guys don't like drama, just ignore those posts. "MYOB" This app belongs to all of us.
