The BMI System is WAY off, this is old news by now. Unless your BMI is very high/low it doesn’t say anything. It doesn’t take into account if you have big bones, if you do sports etc. A look into the mirror will tell you much more. If you are obese and do sports, loose almost all your fat and gain muscle. You will still be obese according to BMI at the same weight, while in reality you are probably fit as fiddle!

I kind of agree with Diablo to some extent. I don’t do lifting to see my body’s capability tho. I needed to switch onto something when I stopped dancing, that’s all. The good thing with weights, you can eat more and junkier!!

Velvetee, dancing counts! 😊 I just mean anything physical. To push yourself in some way. Not everyone needs to agree though. Just my opinion.

So true!!! Love it!

Heh it’s a different mental focus. But both involve discipline.. and physical activity after all. Now that I’m old, I think that lifting is really amazing and cardio should be ditched :))) unless it’s something fun like cycling around with your kids. Shoot me 🕶

@kennyn I agree that kids are less active, but the food is a bigger issue. I was active as a kid, but always overweight. My mom had 20 cases of soda in the garage at all times, twinkies, pizza, and wonder bread in the freezer. Those were my go to meals and snacks. What are kids eating today? Fast food. From the freezer, from restaurants. Inactivity doesn’t help, but the food is a bigger deal. Adults complain about kids, but a lot of times the adults are even less active and more overweight 🧐

@jheeden seems like we have the same body type (and path). I’m working to get down to 225 (my goal) and seeing how that feels. My lowest weight was in 10th grade at 199. I don’t think I’ll ever get there (and may not want to).

I do not know if it's cultural but both myself (39) and my brother (31) have always been super skinny. My father (65) is heavy tho and my mother (66) became a relative baloon starting from 50. Physical activity is soooooo important.

Kids are a tough crowd in general. There pallets are so finicky. Schools don't really provide healthy options. Grandma's never say 'no'. Ready-made meals are easier with kids - esp. in a two parent working household. Kids are frequent snackers. Some folks are afraid of children cooking. Families do not really eat together as much - some times kids eat at a different time from parent so they really can't see how the right way of eating is. When they say they aren't hungry...some adults push the 'clean the plate' rule not understanding how this leads to overfeeding. Different meals cooked in the house - kidfriendly meal vs. healthy adult meal. Underestimating their ability to understand nutrition.

Lol @love2educate yeah! @about... it really depends. My kid eats healthy at school but I know it's a priviledge. With me he eats super healthy stuff. Then shit with his gran. It's all about education and habit, I think. I mean he DEMANDS fresh carrots, salad, tomato juice, raspberry but only with me. So it's a pattern!

@Velvetee...I am making generalizations regarding obesity epidemic. Of course, there are many that do not fit this pattern.
