Wifey, you may notice I did not use filé in any of my recipes. If you like, you can put filé on the table so that people can add a little (I would say a "pinch" at most, it has a very distinctive flavor) to their bowl of gumbo. Two NEVERS: NEVER add filé to your pot of gumbo, it will make it ropy and disgusting; NEVER add filé to okra gumbo.
