The heading didn’t all fit— the article talks about signs that you are NOT eating enough. I like this guy. He has good things to say in a non technical, common sense manner.

Interesting article but I'm completely confused now. On the first calculation (and yes, used the lb to kg converter) the results were that I 'need' 1218 cals a day. But on the maintain the results were 2093. Okay, writing this out it looks a little more logical. I guess it's suggesting that with the estimate 500 cal deficit to lose weight I only have a +/- margin of 300 and that could all be absorbed if measurement or calorie calculations weren't completely accurate. (and we all know they usually aren't spot on) Okay. I'm less confused now.

Someone sent me a private message the other day asking me why I am eating so many calories. I thought it was pretty funny. How is it even relevant that I eat "a lot of calories" if I am losing weight. I am not calorie counting though but I think we are individuals and should experiment with what works for our bodies but yeah eating too little is a bit of a concern

@Liv - wow. Now that's audacious if you weren't asking! Were they criticizing or just truly curious on the connection of 'eating and losing weight' vs 'starve & lose'.

I think the reason Mark Sisson 'peeled away' some of the zealotry of Paleo was because of this very issue.

Terrapin— That is certainly one of the things that the diet industry has finally come to realize is that you have to have fat, calories and water in order to lose weight. Your engine needs fuel to keep running. A very difficult concept for some folks to accept. I struggle to eat up yo my RDI and usually don’t come very close. I just can’t eat that much in one day. I’m not into the lots of bacon, cheese and butter thing so I’m always constantly aware of what I eat and if I can meet my MICRO goals as well as my macro goals.

So it is saying I should at least be eating 1220 calories/day. You shouldn't eat below your goal weight. You will lose weight if you eat at the level of your goal weight. And maintain once you reach your goal weight if you eat at the calorie level of your goal weight. Did I interpret that correctly? Unless I eat out or visit someone's home for a shindig (usually on weekends)...I have a hard time eating that much. So what does it mean if you are under-eating? I will loose too much weight or will my body readjust and cause me to gain?
