abbadabba's Journal, 29 Mar 19

I made a startling connection recently: I am not one of the people who can eat 2000 calories a day and therefore "serving sizes" do not apply to me. 3 months into the new year and I have not been able to get myself to accomplish any of the goals healthwise that I set for myself.
Trying to figure it out, and hopefully get geared up for Month 4 being the best yet.
Happy Friday!

With your height & weight goal, the Calorie intake should be around 1300.

But the reason reason I’m able to eat 2000 + calories is cause I strength train, have two toddlers and I my job involves playing while teaching kids skills...I’m active all day long and tired around bed time (8pm-9pm )

I lose all energy around 8pm, that’s the time I get to relax and watch tv

I am 5'3" (fairly sedentary since I sit at a computer all day) and know for sure I could not lose at 2000 calories a day. 1400 is a better number for me, and of course at my age (51), that whole crazy wild hormone thing is going on which does not help. If you get past the stall let me know what you changed!

2000 calories per day I'd be super gaining weight, Maint for me is about 1400 averaged over a week plus exercise, to lose 1200 average plus exercise.

I think everyone is different. With different ages, activity levels, life style in general the path for each person may be a little different. I don't lose without adding cardio and strength. Any meds can make a difference also. I'm on steroid based asthma drugs and evista daily (evista for bone density to combat some of the affects of steroids on them) . The asthma drugs make it harder to lose weight and keep it off.

I don't understand the point you are making about serving size. I think that you, like me, are trying to focus on portion control. I have been having 1/4 of a grilled cheese sandwich and so far, have been finding it satisfying. Especially when realizing a full sandwich, the way I make it would be more than 600 calories. I have worked in a 1/2 sandwich today and then to do a 72 hour liquid fast. Sometimes it takes awhile for the New Year's resolutions to kick in. You will do it!

Thank you for all the comments - @Fritzy 22 you are right, I didn't make my point very clearly! I basically meant that I can't follow the recommended serving sizes - I have to start taking half or two-thirds of a serving if I want to get a wide variety of food without going over my daily calorie allowance.
