Alive Day 366
One year ago today I walked out of the ICU at Renown terrified, confused and nearly hopeless with my life changed forever. I didn’t even know what a pancreas was or why you even needed one. It has been a very interesting journey to say the least. I vowed that day that I would not quit. Diabetes would not be my master. I read everything I could on this disease, I talked to people who are on this path, I became willing to apply what I had learned and not just survive but thrive. Today my labs are normal in every respect except for that snarky pancreas of mine. If you want the gory medical details I would love to sit over coffee and chat – but this isn’t the forum for that conversation.
I want to give a shout out to my amazing wife who has supported, carried, encouraged and pushed me during this past year. I am positive that I would not be doing as well as I am without here by my side. To my care team at the VA – you have been awesome and informative. To my friends Todd and Patti as well as Mike and Trish – your insight has been a blessing. To all of you I am grateful that I have been given an opportunity to live life to its fullest. There are no guarantees – tomorrow is not promised to us. Today is a gift – I am not going to waste another second on this earth on resentment, hate or anger.
It is fitting during this time of year as I have a couple of significant anniversaries coming up and Christmas on the horizon. I was offered this gift – a present so to speak and God asked me when I was in ICU, “what are you going to do with this gift”? I answered in that moment – “everything I can to be of service to you”
I hope that you all find a way to live in the present and ask yourself – “what am I doing with this gift today”.
Namaste
