Happy Sunday, my Faithful Followers!

I am feeling hopeful today as the Idiot Box again was 173 even - the target weight. I still have 10 days until my scheduled surgery and want to be under the stupid BMI number, so I am still kicking it hard at the gym with extra cardio, and keeping my caloric deficit.

After surgery, I will have to miss the gym for a while to recover, and then go back doing cardio and mostly lower body, core and leg work until my arms heal. Lifting will be put on hold and I will have to rebuild again.

I must say this has been a lesson for me - that I can do it if I MUST do it! What would make me "do it" to get to my real goal weight? What motivation is necessary for me to feel I MUST do it? Isn't my health enough?

What motivates you to say "I MUST" do it?

171-172 on December 19th!

Do they want to test you again before they will take you into surgery or was this just a goal for you before the surgery? I am so proud of you.

No, I think they will weigh me on surgery morning at 6:30am! AT least they better after they made such a big deal out of the BMI number

Your questions are something we talk about often in the "Half Size Me" community. One of the things we always tell new members is they have to have a compelling "why" to start this process and reach goal. It can't be superficial. It really needs to be something that compels an individual to stay engaged. For some it's their children, for others it's reshaping their bodies and genuinely tapping into the potential of their forms, and then there are those incurring health issues severely compounded by excess weight. It differs for everyone. I personally allow my "why" to change everyday. I have a reminder on my iphone that pops up and says "what is your why". I force myself to pause in that moment and think about it. It helps to keep this new lifestyle in the forefront of my thoughts and I'm not so inclined to slip back into old habits.

I agree. Once we have a strong enough reason to move forward ... we just do it. That is what happened to me this year. I found my 'why'. It was like someone opened up the door and there was a whole world out there waiting for me to notice it.

Is the surgery upper body only or lower also? Since my surgery was ankle, I still hit the Gym & focused on UB exercises. It kept the weight off.

@seossca: I am getting a brachioplasty which is the removal of the fat under my arms - the hanging triceps area. I can do all lower body leg and core work and the elliptical without the arms. Just no weight work that involves lifting for a few weeks.

You're doing fine. You're dedicated. Having that is the hub of all progress. I've switched from regular, prolonged calorie deficit to maintenance calories with 24 hour or longer, period of fasting. IF on most days outside of that. Fasting, oddly has far less impact on BMR than prolonged calorie deficit does. It also allows me to eat well, and reasonably big, on maintenance days. IF I hardly notice when I do it. 24 hour is just slightly more challenging.

@KM. Your comments are self-righteous and not useful to me. When you have actually struggled to lose weight, I will consider your comments. Thank-you, but no.
