Howdy from Cody, Wyoming! Food is going well - exercise less well.

My friends (who are driving their car and like to be in CONTROL) have a habit of asking for late check outs and not hitting the road until after noon or 1:00pm! Her husband is the ONLY person who is allowed to drive - I guess he gets too anxious if he is a passenger. SO, when he is tired we stop and they get excitied about dinner. So far, I have been in the backseat of the car, in hotels rooms and restaurants!

It took us three days to travel what really takes two days. I am all for leisurely vacationing but we want to spend time in Yellowstone and do activities...so, it has been a bit of a struggle just getting out here.

BUT, I really am not complaining - the company and scenery are fabulous, and I am NOT at work.

Today I am grateful for:

- VACATION
- My drive snd commitment to stay on track with food plan
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today
- My DH - who is my greatest "cheerleader"
- My Bengal cat companions named Bodhi and Ravi
- My work - which has meaning and worth to other human beings
- My connection to the Mother Earth and its entire splendor
- My physical health

Glad to hear your diet is going well....remember what they say, diet is 80% of the outcome...so better that you are mastering the diet, and slacking a bit on exercise than the reverse. Control is tough. We need some control to manage this weight loss journey, and clearly your friends husband needs control when it comes to his car. Perhaps you can bring up the desire to get an occasional early start? Good luck. Wonderful to hear from you!

My DH will only relinquish driving privileges to very specific people. And we are lucky that most everyone we ever travel with all are get up and get the day going kinds of people. Hope you have a great trip regardless.

It's funny how travelling can bring out the best and worst in people. I guess it's kind of like when you move in with someone and discover all of their nasty little habits that they were able to hide before! But good for you for going with the flow and not getting too upset about your friends' little idiosyncrasies.

Since they are such late risers, you might be able to get in a morning walk/run depending on the surrounding area of the hotel. Do any of the hotels have a fitness room? At the very least, you could get in some sit ups, push ups, jumping jacks, etc. in the hotel room if you are super motivated, hehe. Not checking out until noon or 1 pm on an extended road trip would drive me nuts so I sympathize.

Backseat huh??? Time for lots of abdominal exercises. No one will ever know. :) I have to do them to keep my back from breaking. I would be careful leaving a remote hotel room alone in strange city. Even if DH is with you look out!

I tend to agree with yduj about where to slack off (though truth to tell, If it was me, I'd probably slack off on both...and console myself by saying "well, at least I did a nature walk every day"). I really admire the way you're trying to go with the flow and find the bright side of things! Hang in there!

I'm glad your vacation is going well! I would LOSE it with control freak driving me around, though, my hat is off to you. Good job with the diet, you'll get plenty of exercise when you actually get to Yellowstone and hike all over the place.

Good Job on being able to stay on track! Standing ovation for that! As for being a back seat passenger.. there are several positives to that postion.. you can enjoy the scenery, gives you time to think and plan, read and if tired grab a cat nap. Enjoy the rest of your trip.. keep us posted on all your fun and excitement.

I agree, the mornings while they're dilly-dallying around migth be a good time to squeeze in some exercise. Small towns are safe. I managed to run on both days of my vacation with the siblings. Just don't get lost if you do take a stroll!

Good for you for staying on track with your food. I'd have told myself that it was okay to indulge a bit- I'm on vacation. Have a great vacation.

The late check outs would drive me nuts. How much of the Holiday Inn Express does one need to see? No slight intended if you are lodging at a much swankier place. Oh well. You are quite gracious as you defer to your friends' preferences. The suggestions outlined above are great tips. We are proud of you so have a ball!
