Showerthought of the night. I just calculated an approximate amount of scale weight I could drop overnight or in 2 days if I were to go from my average of 400 carbs a day to 20. That alone would result in a drop of 3.35 pounds. Now, if I slash my average sodium of 4.5 thousand mg to 2k, I would most likely lose another 3-4 pounds. Add how much I would lose if I cut my calories by 50% to 2k and I could be down almost 10 pounds in a couple days. Now you see why some people can become frustrated when they go by the scale alone. It takes months for people to lose a solid 8 pounds of fat after the initial water weight loss when starting a new WOE. So say someone switched from keto to flexible dieting, they all of a sudden gain 5 pounds overnight and then maybe another 1-2 the next day. It's all water if no surplus was achieved but to a fragile mind it's completely fat and carbs are the devil. Now they are 5-7 pounds above their low of the year. They give up on calorie counting after a couple weeks when seeing this while claiming it doesn't work for them.

This post isn't dogging on any way of eating. Some need certain plans to reach their goals. Just trying to explain why people come to certain conclusions.

Hmm, I never got a notification that you posted. Yeah, for the most part, the numbers add up. The times that I noticed a discrepancy, I did not have a normal water intake. Usually happens on the weekend when I am distracted compared to when at work. Just last night I had a weak willpower day and I ate 4200 calories. Yet I was only up .2 pounds today, so it has to be that I didn't drink enough to retain the water. I pretty much only drank the milk that I used for the buckets of cereal, lol! I mean I had 650 carbs and 5200 mg of sodium so it for sure didn't add up this time.

And I used fruit like mad to avoid eating even more. If it were not for the peach, 6 kiwi, and two apples I ate my calories would probably be at 5k. Actually counting them and having fruit around made all of the difference. When you're home alone in the middle of the night and your laptop is on the counter near the kitchen, the weekend can be rough, lol!

You have me thinking now. Wonder what % of my first weight loss was water. I’ll have to do some research :). Thanks for another thought provoking post 😀

I told my friend about this in less technical terms. She weighs 145 and is 5'4". She wants to go to 138 to start but struggles with drinking water for FEAR of water weight gain. I told her look if you gain weight the first month but are eating and drinking correctly...your body will eventually accept the new habits. This is why you should THROW THE SCALE OUT the first month you change a diet. Why give your scale all the power? You must trust the PROCESS. GREAT POST Diablo!!
