I received a question about one of my snack choices.
I always carry a snack sized baggy of roasted edemame and walnuts with me when I am hiking or at school. If the weather is mild, I will throw in a square of dark chocolate. The nuts by themselves are about 20 grams total and about 100 calories.

Edemame nuts with salt. Na) 50mg, fat) 1.23 gm, carbs) 3.33, fiber) 2.7grams, protein) 4.67 gm and calories 43
Walnuts: Na) zero. fat) 6.66 gm. carbs) 1.33. fiber) .7 grams Protein) 1.66 gm and calories 67

You see the edemame (soy) nuts have some sodium and the walnuts don’t . The walnuts are higher in fat while the soy nuts are slightly higher in carbs. The soy nuts have more fiber and more protein. and together they are about 100 calories.
Their nutritional value balance each other out — that goes for their micros as well which is very important to me.

I do the same at lunch— I’m currently on a cottage cheese and vanilla yogurt kick. I love them both but I mix the two together because I have done the math and their nutritional values balance each other out and I get to eat two of my favorites in the same meal. So, that’s the rationale behind my craziness.
