SoCalPam's Journal, 05 Jul 18

I had such a good journal entry all written out and it got... lost. Sometimes this site does that to my entries, both journal and weight. Ah well. Suffice it to say that I had a quiet Fourth due to a jumpy little dog. Hubby, Dad, and I enjoyed grilled chicken and sausage, and a variety of our faves like deviled eggs, pickles, and apple crisp.

I baked two loaves of French bread, which I haven't done in FOREVER and it was really nice to eat bread and butter again! In the past Hubby and I would take a loaf as big as the two put together, butter it, fill it with brie, and bake it. This time the three of us ate half of one loaf and didn't feel deprived or anything; it was a very natural dinner with everyone taking what they liked. All three of us noticed the difference. I put out some chips in a small bowl and some were still there at the end of the night. I ate three :)

My dad has been working hard at weight loss. He's 84 and is now at 173, which is great for him at 5'8". He's been losing height as he's aged, and didn't like that his weight was staying the same, so he's made lots of good efforts. He'd like to get down to the 160's, but he has to wait until I'm OUT of them for good, LOL!

Hubby has lost 30 pounds and looks good, too. It was fun to eat our favorite types of foods and not worry. Our appetites have changed, so we're not indulging the way we might have in the past. I made an awesome salad that we all ate and I NEVER thought I'd put the words "awesome" and "salad" in the same sentence (unless it was a salad made entirely of bacon).

Dad said, "I'm off today. Calories don't count," but of course they do. However, obsessing about them and feeling denied when everyone around you is indulging is no fun, either. We were lucky to be at home where we could control the food (the only thing with mayo was the deviled eggs). I did make a groovy cookie that I created that we all enjoyed: homemade apricot jam made with dried apricots spread on puff pastry and rolled into pinwheels. They were really good, really rich, and 1 or 2 was enough.

Hope you all had a happy Independence Day!
