I have held my own this week.

I am somewhat pleased in that there was a great deal of eating in restaurants. This is because I am spending so much time in town working at my father-in-law's house. I will be doing at his house regularly for the next months. I need to think about alternatives to eating out this weekend while I am home.

I am not pleased because I am not making progress. I can't view success merely to not be gaining despite some high calorie choices!

I had ice cream once this week. I think that is generally reasonable however I have also been eating a date square with my lunch so that is adding up to more than one special treat a week!

The highlights this week include signing up a new renter, moving forward on the rental renovations which should be completed in 10 days, visiting with my friend on her 70th birthday and making progress on my father in law's home.

Lost a bit. 0.6 pounds. Not super great on the scale.

I know that I had quite a week eating at restaurants. Six meals this past week were restaurant meals. This is quite challenging in that it is hard to judge how many calories each meal is and I have a weak spot for homemade desserts. I also had a large ice cream moment. With all of this being true, the half pound loss was pretty good!

What isn't pretty good is that I have been standing still on my weight loss for months. I need to make the 'move' to just get it done! I am not sure that I have the motivation at the moment to do so. I am very motivated not to gain it all back. That is the bottom line at the moment. I will not return to the 190s.

I need to take a page out of my sister's successful weight loss book. She approaches it in 10 pound increments. She gives herself 3 months to lose 10 pounds and just focuses on that goal. When the three months are up she eyes up her success and then lets it go and starts on her next 3 month goal of 10 pounds. So far in the last 9 months she has dropped 27 pounds. She has about 5 more pounds to go to reach her ultimate weight goal of 130 pounds. My sister has also been on a long term weight loss journey. At her highest weight to now she has lost 120 pounds.

This week I have been very focused on clearing out my father in law's house. I have had some help and now the bathrooms are mostly cleared out and I was able to get all the clothes to charity (57 big garbage bags full!). I donated a pickup load to the local daycare that is starting up. I have packed up 25 boxes of tools that are heading out to the Music Festival Association for building infrastructure. I donated decorations to the local Senior's Club and the Curling Club. And yet there is not a single completely cleared out room yet. I have been at it for more than a month. He had so much stuff.

I feel totally ripped off this week. First of all, I am logging in a gain of 0.6 pounds. I have spent the entire week logging in at a modest loss. Today for reasons I totally don't understand I went up 0.8 pound from yesterday.

Couple this with an overall average calorie intake at the very bottom end of my calorie window. I had one 'high' calorie day, two a bit high and 4 very low calorie days.

Yesterday was an odd eating day. I got up late at 6:30am and as I went through my morning routine of exercise, study, shower, etc. I was running late. Ended up with an unexpected half hour call. Then my daughter called as I got out of the shower while on the phone with her a neighbour came over to repair my lawnmower and one thing and another I ate breakfast at 11:30! I skipped lunch and ate supper at the regular time. I was not particularly hungry. Supper was a bit larger in that I had a salad and a low calorie dessert added to the normal plan. I was still 40 calories below the bottom end of my daily window. Not sure if the off routine could really result in a nearly one pound gain. As far as activity goes I spent two hours outside doing weed eating and mowing. The rest of my day I was in motion with one thing or another. Urrgh!!

This week I was busy at my father in law's sorting, donating things and trying not to be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of stuff. My friend came and assisted me for two of the three days. I got in a swim and two chi-gong classes, met with a committee to award a bursary, helped my son with his taxes and a government grant he is applying for, got my last shot for immunization while travelling, and a bunch of yard work done! I continue to work with insurance around having that 45 foot tree fall over at my rental property and the other property has a two new furnaces installed and am waiting for the electrician now. Busy times!!

I lost 2.4 pounds of the 3.4 pounds that I gained last week. Going in the right direction at least.

Actually I am impressed since I ate 3 breakfasts in town and 4 lunches in town. This often results in a weight gain. For breakfast I went to Ricky's for avocado toast which comes with 1 poached egg. Delicious and according to the nutritional information on line it is 300 calories. For lunch I went to Subway for a roasted chicken salad for two times and to the local coffee shop for the other two times where I also get myself a homemade date bar to go with my sandwich.

I have hit upon a snack/dessert which really has been appealing to me. I take an original rice cake (35 calories) and spread one wedge of Laughing Cow cheese (25 calories) then if I am being really decadent I put a little bit of dried dates on it with a sprinkle of sliced almonds. I also have put sliced tomato with salt and pepper which is also good.

This week has been chock full. Monday morning my friend came to help at my father-in-law's for 2 days. Very kind of her as she lives 2.5 hours away.

Monday night a 45 foot Manitoba Maple tree fell over at my rental unit. There was no wind or storm. Just fell. Likely due to dryness. Also it was a very old tree. I spent Tuesday arranging with insurance and hiring a tree removal fellow. (I still need to hire a roofer to fix the roof damage) I also met with the plumber that morning who is working at adding a furnace to my other rental unit - supposed to have a separate furnace for each unit. Discovered that my original furnace needs replacing. All before noon on Tuesday!

I had lunch with two friends on Thursday and a haircut on Friday.

I spent 4 days working 2-6 hours a day at going through his stuff. As of Friday his garage is finally done - it has been literally 3 weeks to get it done. I have stuff arranged on shelves for a garage sale hopefully next weekend. Now to work on the rest of the house. There will be on-going garage sales all summer long. I have hired a friend to do it on commission.

Today I am expecting a friend who has agreed to do an outside art installation in honour of my husband. The artist is someone who is close to both of my children and was a good friend of my husband and myself. We are going to talk actual plans, logistics and money!

Substantial gain this week. By the numbers I could have expected a 2 pound gain and in fact it was a 3.4 pound gain.

Throughout the week I averaged 85 calories per day over the ideal amount of calories for me to ingest. That is about 1 large apple per day. It adds up and the result isn't what I like. It is easy to dismiss 100 calories or less as not making a difference - that just isn't true! Just as going 50-100 calories less than what I need to maintain my weight will result in a 1-2 pound loss.

This up coming week doesn't have social events that include eating in them. That usually makes things a bit easier. Last week I was at a 50th wedding anniversary and a potluck for the North Country Fair coordinators. Last week I was in town 4 days that included long hours clearing out my father in law's house so eating in town and coming home late. It is expected this week to have that pattern continue. I will need to be careful with my choices.
