I am weighing in early in that I normally do this on Saturday. I am leaving tomorrow for 5 days so I won't be checking in at the 'normal' time. I am down 0.8 pounds since last Saturday. I have been in the zone 2 days and below the zone for 2 days. On average I am 15 calories per day lower than my low end of the zone.

I did a number of things to accomplish this. On Saturday as the Garage Sale was in full swing (truly no gap in people and they just kept coming!) there wasn't an easy way to get some lunch. My sister had packed two protein bars and gave me one. On Sunday it was a similar situation. My daughter was feeling overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of people so I suggested she could get me lunch and anyone else who wanted something to eat as a break. She got me a Subway salad with roasted chicken. Monday I was home all day recuperating by mowing my lawn and catching up on all the things I had let drop! So food wasn't an issue. Yesterday I ate my standard Turkey sandwich and date bar for lunch. Breakfast and supper I have kept as the same for the last few weeks.

I am off to the International Blues Festival in Edmonton for the next 5 days. It is a 6 hour drive each way so I go a day ahead and leave the day after which makes it a bit longer but way more pleasant! This Festival is something I did with my husband. He was a major Blues fan. I love to dance to the Blues so it worked out! I am going with a friend who is also a widow. She loves dancing too. The line up is great!

I have lost 0.4 pounds this week. To be honest I believe this isn't entirely correct. I ate well over my 'window' last Saturday. The other 6 days was in the window 3 times and under the window 3 times. Overall my average including the Saturday was slightly under the lowest end of the window. So why such a low loss?

I believe it has to do with the same two things as last week. My sleep has been poor - many nights I have slept well for 4 hours and nothing afterwards. I am not usually such a poor sleeper. I am going to bed exhausted and over tired. The second thing is my supper. I have been eating when I get home which has been around 8 pm. As soon as the dishes are done and the house is tidy I am dropping into bed with lights out around 9-10pm. This isn't ideal. My usual pattern is supper around 5:30-6:00 and lights out at 9-10pm.

Unfortunately for me this pattern is going to be the case for the next while. In the meantime, I know what I am eating and eventually it will show on the scale.

This week has been incredibly busy. My rental units are coming along. If all goes according to plan my renter will be back in next Thursday. My drywaller (and friend) lost his 18 year old niece to a car accident. Tough loss for their family. I have kept up with my own self care - Book Club, electrolysis (chin hairs!), mammogram (10 years since I got Breast Cancer and all clear!), and a haircut. At my father in law's we put in a hard push to get ready for the first garage sale. We donated to Sagatawa (school supplies), the Art Hub (craft supplies for the kid's program) and the Fairview Women's Shelter.

Meanwhile we were stocking shelves and getting prices on the items. The Christmas stuff was so massive and overwhelming we offered it for people to donate what they thought it was worth to the Peace River Women's Shelter. It covered the whole sunken living room with almost no walk space, the kitchen table and a short hallway! To think we had already donated Christmas items to the Nampa Daycare, The Senior's Drop In Centre, The Curling Club, Fairview Women's Shelter and the Grimshaw Library! When the garage door opened yesterday at 4 we had people literally lined up to get in. They swarmed in and we remained busy for the 4 hours we were open. Spent 2 hours re-stocking. I got home around 11 pm. Leaving in about an hour to finish re-stocking.

12 August 2023

This has been an odd week weight-wise. I have eaten pretty consistently in the lower end of my 'zone' for the last 6 days. Generally in the last 6 days my calorie intake (to my best accounting!) has deviated no more than 50 calories but mostly around 10-20 calories. So consistent. My weight however has not been consistent. In this same time period my weight has been up 2.5 and 1.5 pounds and down 1.8 and 1.8 pounds with two more days at up .2 pounds each. When all the dust settled I am clocking in at a gain of 1.2 pounds!

How can I be 'wrong'? I have been eating out my lunch throughout this time however it is the same lunch - turkey sandwich sans mayo and a date square (I know date square is definitely a treat!) I have recorded it the same calories each time. My breakfast and suppers have mostly been identical. The variance in calories might be a difference in weight of the potato. That sort of thing.

Other contributing factors - I have been working hard (lots of lifting, carrying and stairs) at my father in law's so fairly strenuous. Hitting my bed over tired and not always getting a good night's sleep- about half the time I am sleeping deeply. Sometimes my meals have been late and just dropping into bed after eating. Not ideal but what is happening.

I am certain that things will 'come out in the wash' however it is frustrating in the meantime!

This week I did my yard and weed eating (think about 4-5 acres of lawn! about 3-4 hours of mowing and around 2 hours of weed eating), rained, had a lovely massage, took my computer in to do a general cleaning, rained, grandkids came for half a day at my father in law's, my friend came for a half day at my father in law's, total days at my father in law's was 4 days and today heading out to a 70th birthday event about 2.5 hour drive away!

I have held my own this week.

I am somewhat pleased in that there was a great deal of eating in restaurants. This is because I am spending so much time in town working at my father-in-law's house. I will be doing at his house regularly for the next months. I need to think about alternatives to eating out this weekend while I am home.

I am not pleased because I am not making progress. I can't view success merely to not be gaining despite some high calorie choices!

I had ice cream once this week. I think that is generally reasonable however I have also been eating a date square with my lunch so that is adding up to more than one special treat a week!

The highlights this week include signing up a new renter, moving forward on the rental renovations which should be completed in 10 days, visiting with my friend on her 70th birthday and making progress on my father in law's home.

Lost a bit. 0.6 pounds. Not super great on the scale.

I know that I had quite a week eating at restaurants. Six meals this past week were restaurant meals. This is quite challenging in that it is hard to judge how many calories each meal is and I have a weak spot for homemade desserts. I also had a large ice cream moment. With all of this being true, the half pound loss was pretty good!

What isn't pretty good is that I have been standing still on my weight loss for months. I need to make the 'move' to just get it done! I am not sure that I have the motivation at the moment to do so. I am very motivated not to gain it all back. That is the bottom line at the moment. I will not return to the 190s.

I need to take a page out of my sister's successful weight loss book. She approaches it in 10 pound increments. She gives herself 3 months to lose 10 pounds and just focuses on that goal. When the three months are up she eyes up her success and then lets it go and starts on her next 3 month goal of 10 pounds. So far in the last 9 months she has dropped 27 pounds. She has about 5 more pounds to go to reach her ultimate weight goal of 130 pounds. My sister has also been on a long term weight loss journey. At her highest weight to now she has lost 120 pounds.

This week I have been very focused on clearing out my father in law's house. I have had some help and now the bathrooms are mostly cleared out and I was able to get all the clothes to charity (57 big garbage bags full!). I donated a pickup load to the local daycare that is starting up. I have packed up 25 boxes of tools that are heading out to the Music Festival Association for building infrastructure. I donated decorations to the local Senior's Club and the Curling Club. And yet there is not a single completely cleared out room yet. I have been at it for more than a month. He had so much stuff.
