Day one of five for my water fast. I really, really want my body to eat the fat on my chin and neck. My upper arms aren't so pretty right now, either. I am hoping beyond hope that the longer fast periods will reduce skin sagging...fingers crossed.

Good luck! I might try this eventually, but not brave enough right now. Can't wait to read how it goes.

Fingers crossed for you, Lady! My double chin is almost completely gone, and so far, there's no sign of the dreaded turkey neck. *knocking wood* Happy 4th!

here is the kicker water fads, 800 cal diets, will all fail, i was eating 2500 cal a day and still lost weight, all you are doing is torturing yourself because you have been lead astray by people who think they know what it means to be healthy. so very sad to see this post. a 5 day water fast really? really!

Dr. Jason Fung isn't leading anyone astray when he cures their type II diabetes with fasting. He has a blog about Intensive Dietary Management that discusses the hormonal benefits of extended fasts. Furthermore, who says I am tortured? Not me. I feel alert and have high energy. If I could lose weight on 2500 calories a day, I would be at goal weight right now and for the past 40 years as well. Stick around and watch me fail. Then you can say you warned me ☺

okthen78 - It is one thing to ask someone questions about their diet and another one to come in and belittle their choices. I am assuming the best and think that you meant to be helpful. However, the tone of your post is demeaning and hurtful. Here are 3 of the scientifically based pieces of information you may not know that makes your post inaccurate. I encourage you to go read or watch the extensive scientific information about fasting and intermittent fasting by Dr. Fung (put his name in on youtube) and many others. There is now extensive research on the subject of how the body reacts differently to fasting than it does to daily caloric restriction. Here are just three powerful differences: 1). The body's resting caloric needs (metabolism) actually rises by the end of a 5 day fast and is slightly higher at the end of a 24 hour fast. 2). For those who are insulin resistant, fasting enables the body to lower insulin around 50% making the body easily burn fat stores and less easily store excess calories in fat cells. 3). The body works on repairing itself during the fasting period and begins to renew tissue and restore damage.

I used to be able to just cut calories and lose weight, but not anymore. Even on 1000 calories a day the weight just stuck. Now I'm doing LCHF with intermittent fasting (eating between 3 pm and 7 or 8 pm). I've only been doing it for a little less than a week. I don't know much, and I haven't lost much yet, but I do know I feel so much better--not as sluggish or as tired. I'm still learning so my carbs are still a little on the high side but I'm working on it. Don't knock it till you've tried it. As for the water fast, I can't wait to see how Lady does because I'm thinking about trying it eventually.

@HCB, am not anticipating headache because I am still drinking my morning coffee. My diet is already very clean, so I don't have much to detox.
