TXSnowman's Journal, 13 Jun 16

Doing my penance for eating carbs and higher calories a couple of days last week. I'm 39 hours into my fast and will probably break the fast at 43 hours. Had a shorter walk yesterday, only 2 miles, but I did 3 1/2 hours of pushing a mower (over 6 miles). So I had a great calorie deficit yesterday. Did a bit over 5 miles walking this morning before coming to work. Getting back into the swing of things. I plan to stay on an 18:6 or 20:4 IF regimen. Having said that, I have a Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors meeting Tuesday, an out of town conference on Wednesday, and my granddaughter's 6th birthday party on Saturday. So, I'll have to adapt my eating hours to fit. I'll probably just eat on a 16:8 IF for those three days. I hope everyone has a great week.

How are you feeling? Energetic or getting the hangries? LOL! Well done on the fasting!

Mom, funny thing. When I go on a complete fast, my energy level goes up. I don't generally get hungry until I pass the 38 - 40 hour mark. Watched a great video by Dr. Fung (Theraputic Fasting - Solving the Two Compartment Problem). It explains why I have more energy when I don't eat, than when I do. Apparently, our brains are adapted to our hunter-gatherer past, so when you don't eat, the body releases fat to produce ketones so that we'll have the energy to go out and find food.

Wow ... if that is the case, I have plenty of fat to last me for a long time. I have only tried the 20:4 IF. (Sometimes closer to 24-Hour) I got hungry early in the morning yesterday and just did the 16:8 IF. I hear Debrafrederick talk about feeling euphoric also. I doubt I could get by without eating that long when I have to cook dinner for my folks here every night. It's enough I fix their breakfast/lunch and don't eat with them.

Mom, I know what you mean about being around food when fasting. I try to do my 36+ hour fasts when I can be out working in the yard or doing a project all day. When I stay busy, I don't mind not eating. However, if I was in the kitchen cooking for others, it would be incredibly difficult. Best wishes and good luck on your way to your goals.

Thanks TX! I have to remember to eat low carb, though. I took advantage of my all day fasts and eat bread and potatoes. I think I just wanted to see if I could. Now I have to try to stay low carb again. It's been hard. How have you been doing lately?

This week's been great. Calories intake has been low, calories out high. No cravings for chips or pizza. I've been eating some "Extreme Wellness High Fiber Low Carb Tortilla Wraps" (50 cal, 5 net carbs, no sugar, 4 gm protein) and Mission Carb Balance Whole Wheat Tortillas (80 cal, 3 net carbs, no sugar, 3 gm protein. The Extreme Wellness have 11gm of fiber and the Carb Balance have 10gm of fiber. So they fill me up and kill my bread cravings. All in all its been a good week. I hope you have a good weekend.
