Okay. First off, I'm not worried about the gain. I've been on Creatine for about a week and it could easily be the gain from that. In fact, research shows that power lifters could gain up to 10 pounds in a four week period from its use. Of course, much of that will be water gains. Creatine article.

I've also started using the concepts in Eat Stop Eat. It's a really quick read and well worth your time. (Thanks, Mahjohn, I think it was your suggestion.) I decided to this morning to do a quick 18 hour fast. Last time I ate was 8:30 last night. That means I'll hold off until supper tonight at 6:00 (actually 21 hours) and have one good meal at that time, then resume consumption on Thursday morning. Now, before you 16:8 people chime in (thought it's likely the approach I'll take come maitenance). This will give me 1000 calories or so today total.

So an observational question then... I tend to have a rather high glucose spike 0, 30m & 60m post workout. I'd have to test again, but even after 60m it's a bit over 100mg/dL. Typically 115 - 130mg/dL @ 0m post workout. Typically I'm 60-70mg/dL and workout 6hrs+ post meal. No cardio, just weights. Wouldn't/couldn't our bodies create it's own glucose to cause an insulin spike? Our bodies are pretty crafty and are capable of doing some amazing things. I'm not sure cause vs. effect. ie. body needs the glucose and/or insulin. If the body needs a spike in insulin, it could easily as well create a glucose imbalance to cause the insulin response and vise-versa. I'm full Keto 24x7, none of that CKD/TKD. ~10-20g/day carbs. I had no idea my body was leveling up the glucose until one day, our of sheer curiosity I decided to test while changing into my street clothes. I wanted to see how low my levels were and was really surprised to see it elevated.

Frosty, I used to see the same thing when I was on Atkins. I also noticed that my morning fasted glucose was higher as well. After doing some reading I narrowed it down to two possibilities. One is a high level of gluconeogenesis and the other possibility is the liver converting glycogen to glucose and releasing it into the blood stream. Both of these possibilities are controlled by your blood glucose level being low. That would imply that they are occurring in the absence of an insulin spike since insulin would stop both of these processes from occurring. Since I have my A1c tested regularly, which is in the low-normal range, I haven't been concerned about these transient events. I just find them interesting as it shows how adaptive our bodies are.

Milk thistle will cleanse the kidneys during the 4 week off-cycle from creatine.
