Broccolibabe's Journal, 26 Jan 24

I’ve decided to weigh in once a week, on Friday. I’m back down to 175.5, which feel good. Yesterday, I shifted my eating so that I had a very satisfying dinner in the evening. I was originally trying to stop eating much earlier in the day, but I think eating later might help me avoid the late night snacking. I drank plenty of water, ate lots of fiber and only went slightly over my calorie limit. I don’t go to bed until around midnight, so eating later in the day works okay for me I think. I Indulged in tortilla chips with hummus, but I had it as a late afternoon snack, and had it portioned out instead of eating out of the bag. It felt controlled, and very satisfying, which is pretty big for me. I feel like I ate a lot of food yesterday, and I DID go slightly over my limit, but I think it’s more important for me now to feel satisfied and have control and to feel some positivity in my approach to food. Cheers!

These sounds like very good strategies. Fiber and water and timing ... yeah I like it. Happy Friday

I only post my weight once a week, if that. But I check during the week. Good idea to switch around your eating times. I'm just the opposite as far as sleeping. I'm ready to go to sleep as soon as it gets dark and struggle to stay up until 8 . Then I'm awake really early, often 3am. Today I woke up at 4 but didn't get out of bed til 5.

I get out of control with the hummus and crackers too. Removed them from my house to avoid temptation/ they are habit forming, as all snacks are. Look at the big picture- take the extra cals you eat in snacks over the course of a year, and divide by 3500 to see lbs. u may be shocked at how it accumulates over the course of a year. For me, a simple change in a daily indulgence amounted to about 55,000 calories in a year. It all adds up.

Thanks, Morticia!

Wow, Aaronloseweight, attaching a number to it really brings it home. I think about what I always choose to snack on, and it’s always the highly processed, salty stuff. If I ate fruit, veggies, Greek yogurt, etc. I could probably eat as much as I wanted and maintain a healthy weight. It’s always the junk food that calls to me. Removing it from the house is probably the best solution for that. 👍🏻

Fritzy, I used to get up really early, but I’ve shifted over the years. During the spring and summer, I do tend to get up early because I love to go outside with my coffee and look around the garden and listen to the birds. I hate the sound of lawnmowers and weed wackers, so early morning is my outside time. But during the winter, I tend to take my time getting out of bed! I just can’t take that many hours of darkness when I get up!

It's my pets that make me get up so early!

one size does not fit all. Adjust as you are dou g and I bet you'll hit your sweet spot in due time.

I just posted this elsewhere on the site but adding here because this ONE thing has helped me so much...I have rarely used a scale when cooking, just one that fits onto my DeLonghi food processor (that I use during food canning season). I've previously viewed it as unnecessary. Now, however, I am aimed at being far more careful about weights and measures in my food plan. I purchased a simple little scale, pulled out a nice set of measuring cups and use these to be certain that I am correctly monitoring my intake. My guesstimates were close on most items but not all. The act of measuring my food takes little time but has a nice result of feeling satisfaction of being in control. I don't obsess about food or my weight but I am determined to reach a healthier level of mobility, stamina, and reduce the chronic pain level with less junk in my trunk to carry around. That little scale is now my best friend in the kitchen.Wink

I weigh twice a week but once a week is even better, according to my nutritionist. You will find what works for you as far as your daily eating plan. Sounds like your on your way!💪

Gopherlt2, I have been using my scale and measuring cups/spoons as well! It’s definitely easy to underestimate the amount of food you’re putting on your plate. I always try to guess how much something will weigh, and then put it on the scale and see how close I was. I’m usually in the ballpark, but it’s great to know exactly what you’re eating.

I read until 1am or so sipping on sleepytime tea so I’m a night owl. But, I sleep until 10-11ish have coffee and break fast around 2:30. So, we eat late dinners (hubby isn’t home early anyway) dinner 8:30-9:30. Whatever works for you! I have diligently given up all alcohol this month and weighing:tracking every morsel. Happy to say I’m down 12lbs this month 🤗

I have bad habit of late night snacking. did better this week. Had a bowl of soup or cereal if too hungry. Have yet to weigh yet to see if I have lost. Maybe in the morning. Fingers are crossed to keep me from grasping a spoon!
