p$m's Journal, 11 Dec 23

Happy-ish Monday FS fam! I'm irritable today. Not sure why but definitely know what triggered it.. work emails. It's my own fault. I must have been working in a haze last week because I made multiple mistakes (minor) but I should have known better. I think I need a vacation.

My weight is also annoying me; because its going up and down lately. Mean while when I was away for a week visiting family for thanksgiving I was eating cake and chips and gained to start point (2 lbs) but maintained there. Now eating normal-ish... no breakfast cake or chips and its shooting higher than start point.

I have been eating turkey cold cuts with my salad and am wondering if its the salt from that. Anyone have any experience with this? Is there away to reduce the salt in cold cuts?

Salt spikes my weight a lot. Cold cuts are loaded with it.

Ugh! I was wondering. Is there anyway to reduce the salt ? I already bought a ton of it

You can let them sit in water for a bit. But salt is mostly a head issue for dieters. Maybe the body will hold on to water but it is water. It flushes out. The fat is the problem and salt does not make you fatter

Perhaps try low sodium cold cuts

As part of meal prepping, I marinate chicken breast and cut up for salads. That way you are controlling the salt

I would be very careful that you aren’t eating too little calories and eating enough protein. I work out hard everyday and my weight wasn’t budging until I started tracking my protein. Women tend to not eat enough calories/ protein. Also make sure you’re drinking water to off set the salt

@liv I googled it too. It did say soak in water for a bit so I’ll try that with the remaining cold cuts I have in the refrigerated.

@queen they did have low sodium cold cuts but I didn’t think it would cause me to retain 2pounds of water. Next time I’ll be more cautious

I always rinse tuna under water to get rid of some of the salt since I find it too salty

I'm right there with you. I'm irritated as well. My mood hasn't been the best lately and I totally feel like it's good related. My weight is so up and down lately. I haven't eaten terribly but not my usual My sodium is high for sure so now I'm trying to track that to see if it coincides with my mood swings. I hope we can figure this out but until then, I got your back!👍👍

cold cuts are awful for sodium intake and I have a problem eating too much sodium myself and some days it will cause me to weigh about 1-2 lbs more until my body flushed it out...

You guys who are finding it difficult to stay on track, find yourselves eating more and wanting hot, creamy, salty comfort type foods, tis the season. I posted about my theory on one of TJ's posts. We are fighting thousands of years of evolution this time of year....some areas are already snow covered, the harvest is done and everything that can still grow is underground...unless you live way down south. Temps are cooler all over, your body has to up your metabolism to regulate your body temperature. There are rich indulgent desserts at every turn. We are indoors more, less sunlight caused by shorter days. We become affected, irritable, hungry. This is the season that for thousands of years ment scarcity of food. So humans ate excessively when food was available, because there were times ahead where there would be no food. We have only had the abundance of food we presently enjoy for the last 100 years, for the last 50 years it's available 24/7. It's hard to stay on track this time of year! Keep trying! But also understand that you are fighting biological imperatives for survival that were refined for thousands of years. Be patient and kind to yourselves.

It brings to mind an old Merle Haggard song....If we make it through December we'll be fine!

@sara this is the first time I’ve had issues with cold cuts. I don’t normally eat it or meat but thought turkey would be a good protein source for snacking

@debra thanks for your insight

I grill up chicken for the week for protein for what ever I’m eating, salad, rice bowl (brown rice) etc. For a turkey option either get low salt turkey or better yet get a breast of turkey or I like turkey London broil unseasoned roast it and slice it for your meal prep.

@chris thanks for the turkey breast idea. I’ll have to try that as an option. I’m an egg white gal but sometimes I need a change.
