erikahollister's Journal, 19 Oct 23

I haven't posted recently. We went on a 3 day RV trip and spent 2 days in a truck repair yard. It was okay, people were kind, we were safe and the fuel pump got replaced, but it was not the mini-vacay we had in mind. When we got back there was mighty feud going on between 2 of our tenants, who were screaming, accusing and calling the police. Oy! Just the kind of drama nobody needs. My husband got a kidney infection that went to sepsis - at 80 this is no joke! He was at the ER when it got serious, so they tamed it and admitted him to the ICU where he stayed for 3 days. Meanwhile, I mediated the madness between my tenants, took care of dogs and home and spent as much time as possible with him at the hospital. I went into serious adult mode and took care of everybody. No overeating, but very little exercise. I've lost a bit, he's home and getting back on his feet. I'm planning to get back to the gym today and do the last mowing of the year. We're thinking about selling up the rentals, because who needs this, especially as we are ageing.

yeah, and they say that stress hinders weight loss! Maybe getting out of landlording can be part of my overall health and wellness plan!

so glad your hubby is doing better and hopefully you can find a balance of the landlording or like you said maybe give it up as I'm sure you both don't want or need any extra stress added to you.. I'm keeping you in my prayers and thoughts, sounds like you are going through alot and can use a break and this letting go of the rentals may just be a great way to start...

Erika you gave them a chance had they really wanted the place the corporate renter should have stated that in the emails you were corresponding with them. and that's their fault you are not required to hold a place for anyone. And even though you told them you don't think it's appropriate to subject your neighbors to unstable renters. that's not descrimination you have the right to not rent your property to anyone who is drug users and felons, or even a smoker. discrimination is when you won't rent to someone because of their race, beliefs and things like that.. a Halfway house has to be approved for by your city and then you have to file alot of paperwork to get it approved to be one. in our next town over they wanted a half way house there and the owner of the house had to jump through hoops just to get it approved. I'm going to bet it's probably the same way where you live.. and you said nothing wrong about not subjecting your neighbor to possible unstable renters.. I'm sure any lawyer can get the lawsuit thrown out.

Sorry about the mini vacay and your hubby. I’d definitely sell, because you are right…who needs that negative stressful drama? Ugh! 😖 Glad your husband is n the mend. Prayers!!

Thanks for your support, Sara. It's just annoying to have to pony up lawyers fees for telling the truth and protecting my house and neighbors.

Wonderful news that your husband is home and feeling better!! What a whirlwind of unfortunate events in such a short space of time. I'd say you did very well on the adulting, wow!! Unfortunate turn with the corporate agent, especially since you did not have any legally recognized relationship. (So no rights of landlords to be notified upon inquiry if rental can be used in the rehabilitation of any persons in a corporations care? Nonprofit or otherwise?) On food topic, it’s good through all this you didn’t overeat… hope things get resolved for you quickly and you get back to normal routines!
