Was way too hot to hike today. 7painful miles above my ability. Had to keep stopping going uphill and even downhill because I was so tired and my legs were starting to hurt which mean I’m more likely to trip on the rocky trail. It took 5+ hours to finish.

Beautiful scenery! Be extra careful with this awful heat 7 miles is a lot IMO👍👍 I only hiked to my mailbox today but did a workout in my cool living room under the ceiling fan. #WIMP

Those climbs can be brutal. Sounds like you got a great workout. I'll echo Diana -- definitely take enough water on those hot days!

@otb I did Mt Taurus “easier” loop. I think it’s called Bull Hill now. About 1400+ elevation gain. My younger hiking group I was training with finished the hike in 3hrs. I remember those days. Learning to adjust my ability with what I can can’t do anymore. Woke up this morning with very painful plantar fasciitis.

@writing @diana yes I had plenty of water. That I think was also a problem. I have a water bladder for hikes which holds over 3L. And it added about 6 pounds to the weight I was carrying in my backpack. My neck started to hurt and I realized I started to hunch while hiking which is bad cause you don’t get to fully fill your lungs like that. So I started to water the plants here and there after a drink.

@2melons NY was hot but I think the humidity got to me more. Doesn’t help that I am at that age where I’m never cold and always running hot

Sounds like a fantastic workout even with the heat. 👍

Quick question: What kind/brand name of electrolyte drink/powder/gel would you recommend for hiking more than 10 miles? Thanks

*In addition to drinking water * to dehydrate💦

@Matt I usually get Emergen C electrolytes

I meant to ‘stay hydrated’. 😊Thanks P$M , I also use EmergenC.

@matt sometimes I also drink diluted Pedialyte

I have not tried pedialyte but I tried SIS Science In Sport GO Isotonic 6-pack gel drink - tasty fruit flavors💦 They are good but a bit expensive

HOW MANY KM??? Since I don't bicycle much anymore, and I'm not a runner, that would be a tall order! 😂 I've been skittish about bicycles ever since I crashed and spent a few months with a crabby rotator cuff. Could you give me a hiking/walking discount? 🤔
